“So, when are you coming back?”

“Tomorrow morning.”

They didn’t say much else before ending the call.

Jeremy finally asked, “The hearing couldn’t go through?”

Felicia leaned against the railing, tilting her head back to gaze at the sky. The sea breeze caught her hair, sending it tumbling behind her. Her blue dress fluttered softly around her legs. She wore no makeup, but her skin glowed in the sunlight. Only her eyes had lost some of their usual brightness.

Jeremy watched her quietly.

After a moment, Felicia said, “Cameron called this morning. The court postponed the hearing. He’s not sure why yet. He went to see if he could find out more and said he’d call me back later.”

Jeremy nodded. “Sounds like Max pulled some strings.”

Felicia lowered her gaze. “That’s probably it. Now I just have to wait and see what Cameron finds out.”

Jeremy shook his head. “Max was never going to make this easy for you.”

“Of course not.”

If Max had really wanted a divorce, he would have done it a long time ago. He was never the type to let anyone else control him. The moment she filed for divorce, she knew it wouldn’t be simple. So when Cameron called that morning, she hadn’t even been surprised.

They sat together on the deck for a while, quietly lost in their own thoughts.

Up on the upper deck, Max was meeting with a middle-aged man. They talked business over coffee, but every now and then Max’s eyes drifted toward the two people below. His expression was hard to read.

The sun climbed higher and the day grew warmer. Jeremy stood up, ready to head back inside.

Just then, Jim called to follow up on their previous conversation.

“But you should be careful about working with the Curtis family,” she added.

Jeremy nodded. “I will. Drefuo you want to come with me?”

Felicia shook her head. “You go ahead. I’m going to wait for Cameron’s call.”

Jeremy agreed. “Alright. We’ll talk later.”

“Okay.”

They went their separate ways. Felicia went back to her room. She didn’t feel like dealing with anything else right now.

Close to noon, her phone rang. Cameron’s name lit up the screen.

“Cameron, what’s going on?”
