Felicia glared at him, shock and anger swirling in her eyes. She lifted her hand, ready to slap him across the face.
“You’re shameless!”
Before her palm could land, he caught her wrist in a tight grip.
Felicia tried to yank her hand free, but he barely budged. He was just too strong for her. No matter how hard she struggled, it was useless.
“Max, you jerk, let me go!”
He looked down at her, his gaze locked on her furious, tear-bright eyes. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips parted with outrage.
Max’s eyes narrowed. In the next moment, before Felicia could react, his hand slid to the back of her head and he pulled her into a kiss that was hard and overwhelming.
Her eyes flew wide. She felt herself pinned against the cold window, her back pressed tight, her mind spinning. When she finally snapped out of the haze, she tried to fight him off, but he’d already trapped her wrists above her head.
He was like a wall, unmovable, pressing her in.
His kiss grew rougher, almost like he was punishing her. There was no softness in it, just heat and force.
Outside, rain drummed against the glass. Inside, the air was thick, almost stifling.
Felicia felt her strength slipping away.
Just then, the nanny came out of the bathroom with Anne.
Max let Felicia go, his eyes calming down instantly, the heat gone as if it had never been there.
Anne ran over, beaming. “Daddy, Evelynn, were you kissing? I want a kiss too.”
Max crouched down. Felicia turned away, breathing hard, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, face twisted in disgust.
Max kissed Anne’s forehead.
Anne giggled, standing on tiptoe to kiss her dad’s cheek, her little teeth flashing in a happy smile.
Then she scampered over to Felicia. “Evelynn.”
Felicia dropped to her knees and pulled Anne into her arms. Anne hugged her tight, then planted a kiss on her cheek.
Then Felicia’s phone buzzed. She picked it up from the coffee table and spoke to Anne. “I need to take this call.”
“Okay.”
Felicia walked over to the window and answered. “Hey, Greg.”
“Felicia, why aren’t you home yet?”
“I’m staying out tonight, can’t make it back,” she said.
“Are you by yourself, or with someone?”
“I’m with my daughter.”
“You went to talk to him, didn’t you?” Greg asked.
Felicia made a soft sound of agreement.
“Alright. We’ll talk when you get home.”
