Anne’s face lit up right away. “Okay.”

Felicia said goodbye, and Anne waved at her, still smiling as she got into the car. Luke pulled away from the curb, and Felicia watched as Anne’s tiny figure faded into the distance. Her chest tightened and her eyes stung with tears she tried to blink away.

Luke glanced over but stayed quiet.

Once they left the Hawthorne estate behind, Felicia started to feel a little more in control. That was when Luke finally spoke up.

“You’re still not ready to tell Anne you’re her mom?”

Felicia let out a long breath and stared straight ahead. “I just can’t. I have no idea how to even start that conversation.”

She could feel how much Anne wanted her and Max to be together. Just last night, Anne had asked if the three of them could sleep in the same room. If Anne ever found out the truth, she’d be thrilled. Felicia wanted so badly to hear Anne call her “Mom,” to see her smile like that.

But if she told Anne, she didn’t know how she’d ever go through with divorcing Max.

Luke seemed to get it.

“He’s refusing to divorce. Cameron’s probably going to have a tough time with the case. I think you should get a stronger legal team. I can help you find someone.”

Felicia nodded. “Jeremy reached out yesterday. He knows a divorce lawyer. I’m going to make time to meet him.”

Luke just nodded and let the matter drop.

When they got to the hospital, Felicia and Luke headed for the inpatient ward. They had barely made it through the doors when two familiar faces appeared.

Max and Andrea.

Max had his arm around Andrea’s shoulders and was carrying a bag of medicine. Andrea didn’t look well at all. She was pale and tired.

Max noticed Felicia and Luke as soon as they walked in.

Felicia shot Max a frosty glance, then looked away and walked straight for the elevators without a word.

Luke gave Max a quick look but didn’t say anything. He just followed Felicia.

Also, Anne clearly adored Evelynn, more than it should be for a stranger.

It seemed impossible, but there were too many coincidences. Maybe Evelynn really was the woman from five years ago, the one everyone had forgotten.

Felicia and Luke reached the hospital room.

“Dad, what happened?” Felicia asked, worry all over her face as she saw Colton lying in bed, his leg in a cast.

Ava shook her head and sighed. “Your dad went fishing yesterday and got hit by someone on the side of the road. Thankfully it’s not too bad. The bone’s broken, but it’s not serious. I’d like to see him try to go fishing again.”

Colton tried to defend himself. “It wasn’t my fault, I was being careful. I won’t go fishing anymore, I’ll just stay home with you and Sean.”

Ava snorted. “Who says we want you home all the time?”

Their gentle teasing made Felicia smile. Seeing her dad was mostly okay, her heart finally settled.
