Back when she was tipsy, Savannah had blurted out a question. “Felicia, are you really over Max?”

Was she really over him?

Probably not.

But it wasn’t because she still loved him. It was because she couldn’t let go of the hate.

After they finished talking about work, Savannah left the office. Felicia went back to her files and reports.

A little while later, Anne came over holding her workbook. “Evelynn, I finished. Can you check it?”

Felicia took the workbook and flipped through it. Most of it was math problems and some poetry analysis.

The math was flawless.

She sat with Anne and went over the poetry questions again. Anne listened carefully, then quickly made the corrections. Once she was done, she knew Evelynn needed to work, so she quietly settled on the sofa with her tablet and started playing a game.

Around six, Felicia wrapped up her work and got ready to leave.

“Anne, let’s go see Yara.”

“Okay.”

Felicia packed up Anne’s little backpack, grabbed it for her, and took her hand as they left the office together.

They rode the elevator down to the underground parking lot. A car horn sounded.

Felicia led Anne over to Jeremy’s car. He was already out of the driver’s seat, opening the back door for them.

“Hi, Uncle Jeremy.” Anne greeted him politely.

Jeremy smiled. “Hey, Anne.”

Felicia helped Anne into the car, then got in herself. Jeremy pulled away from the company and drove them to Oakridge Estate.

Jeremy spent most of his time in his spacious apartment here. Heather and Yara were living with him for now. Felicia’s place was on the eighth floor, Jeremy’s was on the seventh.

They parked in the underground lot. Felicia got out with Anne, and the three of them headed toward the elevators.

As they crossed the garage, Kennedy was about to drive off but caught sight of them. When he saw Anne with Jeremy and Evelynn, he froze.

Kennedy wanted to ask more, but Max cut him off. “When will you get here?”

Kennedy let it go. “I’m heading out now.”

He’d finally managed to get Max to agree to dinner tonight, which hardly ever happened.

He hung up, looked in the direction the three had gone, tried to swallow the ache in his chest, and drove off.

Up on the seventh floor, Jeremy opened the door.

Felicia and Anne stepped inside.

“Anne, Felicia, hi.” Heather came out to greet them.

“Heather, is Yara feeling better?” Anne asked, looking up at her.

Heather crouched down with a smile. “He’s much better now. Thank you for asking, Anne.”

“Anne!” Yara ran over, his face brightening as he saw her.
