Felicia needed to let Max know she was taking Anne to Northwick. She called him, waiting as the phone rang.
“What is it?” Max’s voice was cool, distant.
“I’m taking Anne to Northwick tomorrow,” Felicia said.
There was a short pause.
“How long will you be gone?”
“About a week.” That would put her back just in time for the first custody hearing. She knew the result probably wouldn’t go her way, but it was still necessary to get it over with.
“Take Anne’s bodyguard and nanny with you,” Max told her.
He agreed so easily? Felicia blinked in surprise.
“What time are you flying out?”
“We’ll arrive in Northwick at ten in the morning.”
“Pick up Anne tomorrow morning.”
With that, Max hung up.
Felicia set her phone down and called her contact in the States to check on the company. No one from Horizon Peak Energy had reached out, and everything was running smoothly for now. Felicia let out a small breath of relief. “Good.”
That night, Felicia got home around eight. Luke arrived at the Ross house with Greg. Neither had eaten dinner yet, so Ava and the housekeeper quickly brought out the food and set the table.
As they ate, Felicia sat with them. “How did things go with Sunlight Tech today, Greg?”
Greg’s face was tense. “Nothing’s settled yet. Brock didn’t just sign a letter of intent. He actually signed a full partnership agreement.” His voice grew heavier as he spoke.
He’d only found out after showing up at Sunlight Tech’s office. It was obvious Brock wanted to force Greenway Electrical Services into the partnership. Brock didn’t see anything wrong with it, either. Sunlight Tech was backed by IronGate Industries, and if they wanted to land this big deal, Brock figured they needed a major partner like that. He was convinced he’d done the right thing.
Greg hadn’t told Brock Sunlight Tech was actually aiming to buy out Greenway. He couldn’t risk Brock letting that slip to the wrong person.
“The twenty-eighth,” Felicia answered. “Our lawyer will handle it, so I don’t need to be there myself.”
Greg nodded, and the conversation drifted to other things.
The next morning, Tommy drove Felicia to Oakridge Estate. Anne had woken up early, excitedly packing her little bag. It was her first trip to another city without her dad, and instead of being scared, she was bouncing with excitement.
“I wish Daddy could come with us,” Anne said, looking up at Max.
Max helped her put on her backpack. “If you miss me, we can video call.”
“Okay,” Anne replied, grinning.
When Felicia’s car arrived outside, Max carried Anne to the front gate. The two nannies followed, rolling their suitcases behind them.
Anne practically skipped to Felicia’s car, beaming.
Max turned to Felicia. “There’ll be someone waiting for you at the airport. I’ve already arranged a place for you to stay.”
