Jeremy sat propped up in bed, his laptop balanced on his knees. When Felicia walked in, he looked surprised for a second, then quickly figured out who must have tipped her off.

“Felicia, you’re here.”

She set the bouquet and fruit basket down on the coffee table, then turned to face him. His skin looked pale in the morning light.

“How are you feeling?” she asked.

“Much better,” Jeremy said. “You don’t have to worry.”

Felicia glanced at his laptop and the stack of paperwork. “I’m pretty sure the company won’t collapse if you take a day off.”

Jeremy smiled, taking off his glasses and giving her a look. “Well, I thought you’d be the last person to say that. Weren’t you always the one working through a fever like it was nothing?”

Felicia laughed, unable to help herself. For five years, powering through work and classes even when she was sick had been her routine. Nobody could ever talk her out of it.

They chatted for a while, and Jeremy finally closed his laptop and set the files aside. The weather was too nice to ignore. He’d been stuck in his room since yesterday afternoon and was itching to get outside. Felicia agreed to keep him company.

The hospital grounds were peaceful, with a path lined by tall trees. Leaves rustled in a cool autumn breeze as they strolled together.

“You’re not with Anne today?” Jeremy asked.

“She went to the Hawthorne family’s place,” Felicia replied.

Jeremy nodded, understanding.

They walked back into the room. Darin gave Andrea a few instructions, then left.

When Andrea’s IV finished, she looked at Max. “Max, I want to go for a walk.”

“It’s windy out,” he said gently. “You should stay here and rest, just in case.”

Andrea smiled, touched by his concern. “Alright, I’ll stay.”

Just then, Max’s phone rang. It was a call from home, asking him to come back. He said he’d be there soon.

Andrea looked disappointed that he wouldn’t be staying for lunch, but she didn’t try to stop him. She managed a smile and told him it was fine. When Max promised he’d come by again in the afternoon if he could, she felt a little better.
