Savannah let out a long sigh. “It’s a whole saga. I used to date her brother, you know. We were even about to get engaged.”

Felicia’s eyes widened. She replayed what Savannah had just said, and asked, “So… did you two break up because of Andrea?”

Savannah’s lips curled into this bitter, mocking smile. You could see the disgust in her eyes. “She wants every guy to orbit around her. Anytime her brother and I got close, she’d lose it, acting like I was stealing her man. Darin spoiled her like crazy, too. Well, thinking back on it, I’m glad we broke up. If I’d married him, my life would’ve been a nightmare.”

“So Max actually likes a girl like that? His taste is… something else.”

Anthony chimed in with a smirk. “Well, at least Mr. Milman’s got better taste.”

Jeremy gave him a look.

Felicia frowned, confused.

Savannah explained, her voice laced with a little satisfaction, “Andrea used to chase after Jeremy, but he turned her down flat.”

Felicia could hardly believe it. She never realized how tangled their stories were. So this was the kind of girl Max liked. Well, you never could explain why someone fell for who they did.

Soon it was time to go. The group left the restaurant together.

Just as they reached the lobby, they saw a scene playing out at the door. Andrea was clinging to Max, clearly not ready to say goodbye.

Savannah muttered, “What a pain.”

They all slowed down, waiting for the others to leave first.

Andrea held onto Max’s hand, refusing to get in the car. Max gently patted her head, his eyes soft. “Go on, your brother’s waiting.”

Andrea noticed their group walking over. She tipped her head up, lips parting in a pouty little whine. “Max, give me a kiss.”

Before Max could move, Darin’s voice cut in, sharper than before. “Andrea, we’re leaving.”

Max just said, “I’ll make it up to you next time.”

Felicia nodded.

Just then, her phone started buzzing. She reached into her bag, expecting it to be Ava. But when she saw who was calling, she froze.

Jeremy glanced over. “Is that Max?”

She nodded. “Yeah.”

“You should answer,” Jeremy said.

Felicia steadied her breath and picked up. “Hello?”

A deep, commanding voice came through the line. “Come back to Oakridge Estate!”

Then the call ended.
