Holden pulled his eyes away from Felicia, a faint smile on his lips. “She’s a girl I want.”

The words hung in the air. Under the glow of the lights, Max’s eyes darkened, something shadowy flickering in them. “Is that so?”

Felicia slid into Luke’s car, her heart still pounding out of control. She had to sit quietly for a while before she could pull herself together. Luke waited until she looked a little calmer, then finally asked, “That was Holden, right?”

Back when everything had happened to Felicia, Luke’s company had been at its busiest. They’d barely spoken for over half a year. He didn’t even find out what she’d gone through until much later.

Jeremy had been in the States, handling Heather’s divorce, so he’d been the one at Felicia’s side. He helped her through everything, right down to the lawsuit that put Holden behind bars. Luke couldn’t believe Holden was already out.

The regret hit him hard. He kept asking himself why he hadn’t been there for her.

Felicia didn’t really need to say anything, her reaction said it all. What surprised him was that Max seemed to know Holden too.

Colton, Ava, and the others still had no clue what had really happened to Felicia in America.

Felicia leaned forward, pressing her fingers to her forehead as she let out a tired breath. She nodded weakly.

Luke noticed how exhausted she was and didn’t ask any more questions. He still didn’t know exactly what she’d been through. All he knew was that she’d spent almost six months in therapy before she started to feel like herself again.

Thinking about that made him grip the steering wheel tighter.

When they got back to the villa that night, Felicia still couldn’t sleep, even with the help of a few drinks. She kept slipping into nightmares. Every time she closed her eyes, she was back in that pitch-black room, trapped, forced to listen to those awful, disgusting sounds. That week had nearly broken her, body and soul.

She finally woke up late, sunlight already pouring through the window. It was ten in the morning.

Someone knocked at the door.

Felicia sat up in bed. “Come in.”

Luke walked in and, seeing how pale she looked, hurried to her side. “Did you sleep at all last night?” he asked, worry clear in his voice.

“Felicia, how do you know Gavin? Why is he being so helpful?”

She smiled a little. “We met during my PhD. He’s one of Professor Michael’s students too.”

Luke nodded, falling quiet for a moment. Then he asked, “So... have you decided when you want to head back home?”

They’d already been here for more than a week. They’d planned to stay for a month, maybe travel a bit after everything was sorted. But now, Felicia just wanted to go home.

“As soon as this is done, I want to leave,” she said.

Luke understood. He’d finished his own business here, so now he was just staying for her.

“Are you going to the office today?” he asked.

“I’ll head over for a bit after one.”
