“Has he really never liked anyone? Never dated before?”

Savannah sighed. “Him? All he ever thinks about is work and studying. He sees girls as distractions, nothing more. Honestly, the girls who’ve tried to get close to him are all amazing. Great families, smart, beautiful… but none of them even got a second glance. So for someone like Andrea, who’s so fake and manipulative, he wouldn’t even bother.”

She paused when Andrea’s name came up, glancing at Felicia.

Felicia caught the change in her tone and turned to look at Savannah. She gave a small smile. “Everyone’s preference is different. There’s no right answer when it comes to feelings.”

“Still, I think Max has terrible taste.”

Felicia didn’t say anything.

Savannah quickly changed the subject. “You know, you’re the only person Jeremy has ever complimented.”

“Me?” Felicia was genuinely surprised.

“Yeah. He said you’re the most hardworking, ambitious, and clever student he’s ever met. Said you’re definitely better than me, and roasted me for it.”

Felicia burst out laughing. “Did you do something to annoy her?”

“I did mess up at work, but she was serious about you. That’s why I think it’s such a waste for someone as smart and talented as you to give up your future for marriage and kids. I mean, to be blunt, it’s just throwing away your career. But you’re still young. Have your baby, and you can always start again.”

She shook her head. “Max is a jerk. The farther you stay from him, the better. Once you’re successful, there’ll be tons of amazing guys after you. Max won’t even matter.”

Felicia just smiled and nodded. She could tell Savannah was really upset, probably thinking about her own bad experiences too.

Savannah clenched the steering wheel tighter.

Felicia’s heart dropped as she listened. She’d known Max might retaliate, but she didn’t expect him to go this far for Andrea. She knew all about the financing deal. Losing it would be devastating for Brookside Bank.

She took a slow breath, staring out the window, pressing her hands over her stomach, trying to stay calm.

Savannah ended the call and pulled the car over, gripping the wheel, her face tense and angry.

Felicia watched her, worry clear in her eyes.

Finley had just told Savannah to head to The Spoon right away. He must have set up a meeting with someone there.
