So this lady was definitely Andrea’s mother. She radiated a kind of elegance and power you just don’t see every day.
Felicia’s eyes drifted to Max, who stood quietly behind them. He’d rushed off this morning, and now she understood why. He was spending the day with his future mother-in-law. Max looked right back at her, his expression calm, almost indifferent. Felicia quickly looked away, her mood sinking even lower.
Yvonne didn’t stick around to chat. She barely glanced at Felicia before following the manager into the VIP room. Andrea linked arms with her mom and called out, “Let’s go.”
Savannah gently helped Felicia as they walked past Max.
Darin turned, watching Felicia move slowly, one hand pressed to her back. He glanced at Max. “She’s due soon, right?”
Max made a quiet sound of agreement.
Andrea called them from the other room, so Darin dropped it and headed inside with Max.
Once they stepped out of the store, Savannah let out a long sigh. “This city is huge, but somehow I keep bumping into people I’d rather not see. Maybe I really do need to pray for better luck.”
Felicia laughed softly. “Hey, it can’t hurt. Maybe you’ll get some good vibes for next year.”
“Actually, I should ask Mr. Milman for a half day off. I’ll make a wish for you too.”
“That’s sweet of you, Savannah. Thanks.”
They kept the conversation light, both of them silently agreeing not to bring up anything or anyone that might ruin the mood.
They had dinner at the mall, and afterward Felicia said her goodbyes and headed home.
Felicia couldn’t hold it together anymore. She started to cry, the sound raw and helpless. Ava’s own eyes grew red, and she gently patted Felicia on the back.
“It’s going to be alright. We’ll get through this. Someday you’ll be strong enough to fight for your child.”
Ava didn’t really believe it, but she said it anyway. Felicia held onto those words like a lifeline. She knew Ava was right. Even if the odds were slim, she wasn’t about to give up.
The next few days passed in a blur. Every morning, the live-in doctor came by to check on Felicia, and a nutritionist handled all her meals. Ava didn’t have to cook anymore.
Max was home most nights, but he and Felicia barely crossed paths. It was obvious he was busy, especially with the year coming to an end. Still, that didn’t stop him from making time for Andrea.
From what the doctor said, Felicia wasn’t allowed to go out on her own anymore. She was stuck at home, waiting for everything to change.
