Jamison pinched her cheek, caught between laughing and crying. "Are you cursing me, or are you cursing yourself?"
Ivy thought about it for a second. If something actually went wrong with his equipment, that would really be...
Whatever. Better not curse him.
"Alright, let's eat."
As they stood up and headed to the dining room, Jamison casually asked, "Katrina didn't bring Lily upstairs today?"
"No, they went over to Dr. Wilson's place."
The mention of his mentor, Dr. Wilson, reminded Jamison of something. "Ms. Penn hasn't been in good health lately. We should make some time to go visit her this weekend."
"Okay, you handle the arrangements. I'll clear my weekend schedule."
As the family of four sat down, Floyd suddenly sighed. "When Lily doesn't come for dinner, it feels like we're missing someone."
Hearing her son sound like a melancholic adult, Ivy smiled slightly. "What, does the food not taste as good without Lily here?"
"Kind of, yeah..."
Ivy shot her eldest son a look, then glanced over at her husband. Neither of them said a word, but they clearly reached a silent understanding.
That night, Jamison had originally planned to grab a pillow and sleep in the guest room, fearing he might lose control if tempted by his wife.
But the moment he picked up his pillow, Ivy threw him a single glare. Without her saying a single word, he instantly surrendered.
"Alright, alright, I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay in the master bedroom." He placed the pillow right back where it was and turned to get into bed.
Ivy teased him intentionally. "Dr. Ludwig is really overestimating his own charm. You're acting like I'm some sort of female predator."
Jamison chuckled, shifting closer to wrap his arms around his wife and coax her. "Not at all. I was just worried my self-control wouldn't be strong enough. After all, Mrs. Ludwig still has her radiant complexion and stunning curves."
"Excuse me? Still has her radiant complexion?" Ivy knew he was deliberately misusing the phrasing to sound like she was getting old, and she instantly turned, raising a hand to smack him.
Jamison caught his wife's wrist and, with a slight tug, pulled her firmly into his embrace.
"Alright, enough messing around. Let's talk business." Locking his arms securely around his wife, Dr. Ludwig's expression grew slightly serious.
Ivy tilted her head up from his chest, studying him. "I know exactly what you're going to say."
Jamison raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"Floyd and Lily..." Ivy kept her eyes locked on her husband, knowing from his reaction that she had guessed right.
Jamison nodded. "Yeah. That kid is at an age where he shouldn't even know what love is, right?"
"Heh," Ivy shifted into a more comfortable position in her husband's arms, letting out a cold scoff and drawing out her words. "I wouldn't be so sure. He knows a hell of a lot. He even understands the biology of how Mom and Dad make babies. You really think he doesn't know what love is?"
Jamison replied casually, "If he gets it, he gets it. The kids grew up together. Childhood sweethearts falling in love isn't a bad thing."
