The chapter Chapter 48 is one of the most intense moments in The Wounded Love, written by Mia. With signature elements of the Internet genre, this part of the story reveals deep conflicts, shocking revelations, and decisive character changes. A must-read for anyone following the narrative.
I was the only person who got ID'd and of course they had to make fun of me for looking like I was twelve. The bouncer was hesitant about letting us in because it was so full, but after Sean pulled out his wallet everything, the big security guard stepped aside and let us in.
Jade was practically drooling.
"Can I ask you something?" Dante said once we were inside.
I was getting shoved around by sweaty people dancing and the music made it hard to hear, so we made our way over to the wall near the bar, where Sean had already swallowed three shots of tequila in a matter of ten seconds, the crowd around him cheering him onto the forth. Maybe he and Jade were a match made in heavy. She was like the female version of him.
"Sure." I answered after we made it out of the crowd.
"What are you wearing under that dress?" It took all my strength not to laugh. If I did laugh I would've ended up spitting out my drink.
"What kind of question is that?"
"I'm just curious." He said. "The dress is tight and I don't see lines. It's either no underwear or a thong, si?"
I pulled him down to my level so that I could whisper in his ear, "Remember that Christmas present you found in my room?"
His eyes widened and then he let out a breathy chuckle. "That's what is under there?"
"Si." I said against his stubbly cheek. Then I turned around and ordered another drink. I was leaning over the bar, Dante leaned with me but had his hand on my back. He ran it down to my butt.
"You should let me see." He said. "It is my Christmas gift after all."
"I know." I told him. "You'll see it when I'm ready to show it to you."
"That's not fair." He whined. "I want to unwrap my present."
Now I laughed. "You're so corny."
"You're so mean." He said backing me into one of the walls. Then he pressed his body all the way up against mine and kissed me.
We drank, laughed, drank some more, danced, and drank a little more. At one point Sean pulled out four blunts, "We gotta do New Years right guys!" He passed one to each of us. I couldn't help but noticed the way his fingers lingered on Jade's as he passed it to her, the way she held his hand and he lit it for her.
The most I have ever smoked had been one of my dad's cigars when I was sixteen and left home alone. It was the worst experience of my life, I thought I was going to die, so Dante saved me when he jokingly said, "Oh no! We have to keep the weed far away from Skyla. She's going to talk about the last time she went riding and turn into a twilight nerd."
As the New Year approached we made our way outside. It was impossible to see above the crowd of people. There were so many of us that despite the frigid air I was sweating. Dante let me climb on his back so that I could have a better view of what was going on.
The city turned into chaos as they let the ball drop. People cheered, screamed, kissed. I on the other hand almost fell off of Dante, but luckily he caught me.
"Felice Anno Nuovo!" He said bringing my mouth to his. We kissed until Sean broke us up.
"Let's go party!" He yelled above the crowd.
So we didn't go home. The match made in heaven dragged us around the city until at least three in the morning.
