Hamilton acted as if he hadn't heard her. Turning to the nanny, who had just stepped out of the kitchen, he commanded, "You're off the clock. Leave my house immediately."

Martha, a woman in her fifties, let out a confused hum. The way this man was talking, it sounded like he was the master of the house.

"Ms. Taylor, who is this?"

"Martha, just go back to the kitchen and keep cooking. Kristin is probably hungry by now."

"I'll cook tonight," Hamilton declared.

"Hamilton, this is my house—"

"And from now on, it's my house too."

"You!" Natalie furrowed her brows in sheer disbelief. "Are you really going to just force your way in like a thug?"

Hamilton nodded shamelessly. "I'm out of options. This is the only way."

He turned and urged Martha to hurry up and leave. Martha, realizing something was deeply wrong, looked to Natalie for instructions.

"You know what I'm capable of. I doubt you want to drag this sweet-looking lady into our mess, do you?" Hamilton muttered, softly threatening Natalie.

Natalie glared fiercely at him. He was acting like a total psycho; he really was capable of anything right now.

She couldn't let Martha get caught in the crossfire. She had to send her away.

Martha's eyes darted around, quickly catching on. "Fine, I'll go," she said loudly, "but you need to settle my wages first, Ms. Taylor!"

Natalie understood the cue immediately. "Follow me into the bedroom, I'll get your cash."

Natalie told Kristin to go back to her room and finish her homework before leading Martha into the bedroom.

"Ms. Taylor, that man is no good, is he? Do you want me to call the cops for you?" Martha asked, her voice laced with worry.

Natalie stayed silent for a second. "He took my phone. Make a call for me after you leave."

After seeing Martha out, Natalie walked back to the kitchen to find Hamilton already inside. He was chopping vegetables, his grip on the knife painfully awkward and clumsy.
