The cab driver took one look at the masked Natalie and the young girl beside her, offering a kindly warning. "This area is pretty rough. You shouldn't linger around here. Find whoever you're looking for and get out fast. Take a picture of my phone number—if you can't get a ride back, call me."

Natalie thanked the driver and stepped out in front of a dilapidated building.

"Mommy, is Marico really in there?"

Natalie nodded. Before Lola hung up, she had yelled Marico's name, and Natalie heard him answer. That was the only reason she had dared to bring Kristin here.

Unlike the neighboring structures, which were pitch black, the middle floors of this building were lit up with pulsating, neon lights. Just as she was about to pull Kristin inside, a man and a woman stumbled out the front doors.

Both were clearly drunk. The woman was draped over the man, who was swaying heavily on his feet.

As they passed Natalie, the man looked her up and down.

"Well look at that. A good girl coming out here to find her man. God, I've been craving a taste of something innocent lately."

"Oh, stop it. I used to be a good girl too, you know."

"You throw your ass at every guy who walks by. Calling yourself a good girl is an insult to the word."

The two of them laughed and stumbled away. Natalie hesitated, suddenly very reluctant to go inside.

Right at that moment, Marico's phone sent her a text.

"Are you here? Too scared to come up?"

It was obviously Lola texting her. Swallowing her nerves, Natalie gripped Kristin's hand and headed inside.

It wasn't until she reached the fifth floor that Natalie realized an illegal underground club was hidden inside the building. The fact that it was tucked away in such a rundown place meant it was absolutely not a legitimate establishment.

The doors to the club were wide open, but hulking bouncers stood guard.

"If you can't get it up, then get the hell out."

Natalie tilted her head and saw Lola entangled with a man wearing dress pants and a white button-down shirt. The guy clearly worked a corporate job—his skin was pale, his body soft from sitting at a desk all day, and he was obviously completely out of stamina.

Mocked relentlessly by Lola, he gritted his teeth and tried to push through, but Lola ultimately shoved him away with a sharp kick.

"Pathetic!"

Lola cursed, smoothly adjusting her clothes. She turned the corner and bumped right into Natalie.

She let out a short laugh. "You actually showed up."

Natalie was completely lost. Weren't Lola and Marico supposed to be together? What was she doing with another guy?

Just what exactly was their relationship?
