Liliana didn't even bother looking at Linton. She pushed past him, dragged her suitcase to the door, and opened it.

Standing there was Liam, his handsome face sporting a roguish grin.

Liam thoughtfully stepped forward to take her suitcase, flashing her a wide smile. “Well, if it isn't my favorite girl. Long time no see. I'm here to pick you up.”

Liam’s eyes were wide and clear, projecting an image of pure innocence that could fool anyone.

Watching from behind, Linton felt a dull ache in his chest. It was infuriating.

What an act.

They had all grown up together. They all knew what the others were really like.

Linton followed them out, hovering around Liliana, unable to let go as he tried to coax her.

“Liliana, you just woke up. I made you breakfast.”

“Why don't you eat before you go?”

“You could even stay for lunch, if you don't mind.”

Liliana's eyelid twitched in annoyance.

Liam smoothly stepped between them, one eyebrow raised in a cheeky, arrogant smirk.

“No need to trouble Mr. Cooper. You just worry about yourself.”

Liam's wide, provocative smile remained on his face as he spoke in a place Liliana couldn’t see. His voice, however, sounded perfectly well-behaved. “I'll be the one taking care of Liliana from now on.”

Linton shot him a look as cold as ice, a dangerous glint in his black eyes.

Liam wasn't the least bit intimidated.

He met Linton’s gaze with a challenging smirk and twisted the knife. “It was Liliana’s brother who asked me. If you have a problem with it, you can take it up with him.”

Linton's jaw tightened. He almost laughed out of sheer anger.

He looked past Liam to Liliana’s slender back, his lips pressed into a thin line as he pleaded one last time.

“Liliana, at least... stay for breakfast.”

“I made your favorite waffles, with your favorite strawberry jam.”

“Hey.”

Liam cut him off, a lazy smile on his lips. “Stop bothering her.”

“Can’t you see? Liliana doesn’t want anything to do with you.”

Liam gave him a lazy glance and smiled. “I know.”

“Found out before you did.”

It was as if Liam was determined to get revenge on Liliana’s behalf.

He leaned closer to Linton, his roguish eyes locking onto him as he lowered his voice.

“Linton, wake up.”

“You don’t actually care about her. Otherwise, how could a stranger like me know she was pregnant before you did?”

Linton froze, his gaze turning grim and hostile.

Liam just smiled, completely unbothered. “Liliana’s psychological report actually concluded she has prenatal depression.”

“I helped her hide it. To keep it from you. You’re welcome.”

Linton’s pupils constricted violently.

A surge of fury filled his eyes. His fists clenched so tightly his knuckles cracked, and he wanted nothing more than to smash his fist into Liam's smug, smiling face.

Liam raised an eyebrow, his lazy, wicked voice dropping even lower, so Liliana couldn’t hear, his tone dripping with meaning as he smiled.
