Liliana had no rebuttal.
An inexplicable wave of frustration washing over her.
When would this mess ever end?
She let out a deep sigh. For now, she was stuck. She couldn’t go home, and if she wanted to avoid danger, she had no choice but to stay abroad and focus on her pregnancy.
Wanting to distract herself from her worries, she abruptly changed the subject.
“What about you? Why did you agree to help my brother?”
“Aren’t you busy? You have to find Isabella, deal with Logan... and the Grayson family... don’t you need to keep an eye on things there?”
Liliana was puzzled.
The Grayson family only had two sons: the older, Matthew, and the younger, Liam. With Matthew gone, Liam was the sole heir.
By all accounts, he should be incredibly busy. How did he have time to agree to Gabriel’s request and come abroad to look after a pregnant woman?
They weren’t related, and she and Liam weren’t that close. They had only occasionally visited him abroad with Matthew when they were younger.
At the mention of the Grayson family, the smile on Liam’s face faded slightly. A sharp, fierce light entered his eyes.
He pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek and said with a lazy smile, “Not busy. There’s nothing for me to do with the Grayson family for now.”
“Besides, the Nightfall brothers’ company headquarters is in this country, and I suspect Isabella is hiding here with Logan.”
“I was coming here to look for them anyway. Looking after you is no trouble at all.”
Liliana couldn't help but give him a second look. “I never realized you were so kind-hearted. Always willing to help?”
Liam chuckled, his voice light and a little cheeky. “Looking after a pregnant woman is everyone’s duty. No more thanks.”
Liliana’s lips twitched. She turned her gaze back to the window, speechless.
Still, she was curious.
Liliana snapped back to the present, instinctively looking out the window. The small apartment Gabriel had arranged for her was in the bustling city center, close to the police station. It was indeed quite safe.
Just as she was about to get out, the car door was pulled open from the outside.
Liam stood there smiling. He bent down slightly and extended a hand to her in a gentlemanly gesture, elegantly inviting her out of the car.
The still-young man’s gaze was fixed on her, his starlit eyes holding a depth of complex emotion she couldn’t decipher.
Liliana was momentarily taken aback.
Liam’s smile deepened.
He bowed his head slightly in a perfect, courtly bow, his roguish, lazy voice carrying an unexpected gentleness as he chuckled.
“Let’s go, Miss Hart.”
“From now on... I’ll take good care of you.”
