"Linton, do you hear me?! Give Logan back to me! He's my child with Matthew! He belongs to me, completely and totally to me! He can't live without his mother! He loves me, Logan loves me!" Isabella's voice rose to a piercing shriek. At the end, her composure shattered completely, and she collapsed against the glass, sobbing.
Linton watched her meltdown with cold, unwavering eyes. He turned to leave, not sparing her another glance, his voice a flat, dispassionate tone. "If you truly loved Matthew, and if you truly love Logan, what you should be doing right now is confessing and atoning for your sins, not running from reality and shifting the blame."
Isabella froze, her hands pressed against the partition. Her eyes were red and swollen, and after the emotional explosion, her mind went blank, unable to process anything.
Linton didn't wait for her. He walked away, but paused halfway to the door. He turned his head slightly and added, his voice chillingly calm, "By the way, do you know how I found Logan?" He didn't wait for an answer. "I've had my men hounding the Nightfall brothers all over Crownport. They were dragging Logan with them as they ran. Finally, they lost their patience. In the middle of the night, they abandoned the boy all alone in the desolate wilderness on the edge of town. He was nearly dinner for a pack of wild dogs."
Isabella's eyes shot wide open. She stared at him, the shock of his words so immense, so completely outside her realm of understanding, that she couldn't believe it.
Linton’s voice laced with icy contempt. "Those are the people you trusted. The ones you're protecting in here. I wonder if they appreciate your loyalty."
The words sounded absurd, impossible. Her face was as white as a sheet, her lips trembling. "No... that can't be... it can't be!" she stammered in terror. "You must be lying! I... we... no, impossible! They would never betray me! I'm the one who gave them the status they have today! They would never betray me!" She clawed at her hair, screaming like a madwoman, her sobs tearing through her.
Linton offered no further reply, only a single, cold parting shot. "If you want to know the truth, then confess to your crimes and clear Matthew's name." With that, he turned and walked away without a moment's hesitation.
Isabella stared after him in shock, a raw panic rising in her chest. She bit her lip until it bled and slammed her fists against the glass, her voice a shredded, desperate wail. "Brother... Linton! Come back! Come back! Explain yourself, damn you! Come back! Get back here! LINTON!"
