By the time Michael came back, I was long gone, starting fresh in a new city. 

My company had grown a lot. 

It wasn't on Michael's level yet, but I was making steady progress. 

When he finally tracked me down a month later, I had already built a solid foundation in Chicago. 

I poured him a glass of water, my tone indifferent. 

"No tea, Mr. Johnson. Hope you don't mind." 

Michael slapped the glass out of my hand, his face dark with anger. 

"Sarah, I told you—I'm not agreeing to this divorce!" 

"That's not up to you." 

His jaw clenched, his brows furrowed so hard they almost twisted. 

"What do you even want? I already admitted I was wrong!"

"I promised I'd cut Hailey off—why are you pushing me to this point?" 

"Do the seven years we spent together mean nothing to you?" 

"Why can't you just stay my wife?" 

"Because I don't want to." 

I cut him off coldly and pulled out the envelope of photos. 

His expression froze. 

He took an instinctive step back, his lips going pale. 

"There's nothing to explain," I said.

"And I don't need your excuses." 

"Go find Hailey." 

I turned and walked away. 

As I reached the door, I heard a dull thud—Michael had fallen to his knees.
