My hands curled tight around the bundle of clothes. It was my fault. If I'd kept my fear of men alive, if I'd never trusted him, maybe I wouldn't be standing here now in his cage.

I turned my back to him and changed as swiftly as I could.

When I was done, he took the towel from me without a word. He stepped back into the bathroom, then returned moments later and guided me to the bed.

I was surprised when he pulled out a message oil, sat beside me, and placed my leg on his lap.

"Stop it. I don't—"

"We could do this chained."

I stopped struggling.

His hands on me burned. I'd do anything to get them off. I couldn't believe the asshole was trying so hard to act normal. Like we weren't enemies and I didn't wish to kill him.

He could keep deluding himself. One way or another, I'll escape this place. And when I did, I'd run so far he'd never find the dust of me again.

.....

Light from the screen flickered over my face, and my smile mirrored the one on TV.

As I laughed, a mellow breeze slipped through the window, carrying the echo.

"No, don't go in no. He'll definitely find you!" I said in a low whisper to the people on the screen like they could hear me.

The character was just about to walk in when I heard my own door creaking open. I grabbed the remote with lightening speed, killing the TV.

Void walked in, calm as ever. His eyes flicked to the blank TV, then back to me.

"You didn't have to turn it off."

I kept my face carefully blank, refusing to let him see the disappointment sinking into my chest at the fact that he'd still caught me watching TV.

"Come on."

I kept a frown as I looked at him. "What?"

"I need to show you something."

....

This wasn't the first time Void was taking me out of my room in the three weeks I've been here. The last time, he'd taken me on a walk down the secluded street I was locked in. I'd been hopeful, thinking I'd meet someone I could call for help, but the place was like a morgue.

I couldn't think of running either 'cause I knew he was stronger and faster and wouldn't let me out of his sight for a second. I'd tried using the excuse of needing to pee in the bushes. He'd followed me there too and stood watch while I did it.

I was completely trapped with him, as sad as it was. And what twisted the knife deeper was the question of how did he get access to a place like this?

Today, however, he didn't actually take me for a walk. He took me to a small abandoned building beside where we were staying. Well, I said abandoned because it looked worn, filthy, and forgotten from the outside.

"What is this place?" I demanded as we went forward.

My heart began to race for no reason at all, thudding wildly against my ribs like it sensed danger before my mind could. Something told me this place wasn't ordinary.

"Something you need to see," came his cold reply.

We walked past the threshold into a wide dim room. Shadows crouched in every corner. I could tell there were things inside, but the darkness kept their shapes hidden, until Void reached for the switch and the lights snapped on.

I saw some tools, tables, beds, a coffin with a transparent covering—I couldn't see the inside yet—and someone hanging from the ceiling.

The person's head was dropped low. Since I was standing very far, I couldn't properly see his face.

Void's hand closed around mine. I tried to jerk free, panic spiking through me, but his grip tightened as he guided me forward.

Each step brought the hanging figure closer into focus.

Closer.

Clearer.
