“Perfect!” Paisley was already on her feet, rolling her shoulders. “I’ll head to Dr. Digby’s clinic now. I’ll tell him I ‘trashed my wrist‘ in combat training and need emergency physical therapy. It’s a classic injury—no one will suspect a thing.”

Theodore nodded, letting out a heavy sigh. “I won’t let Alpha Zander go down like this. I’ll do whatever I have to, even if it means putting my own rank and reputation on the line.”

He stood up and walked to the window, staring out at the moonlight.

“The Hornbeams earned its glory on the battlefield. Our ancestors fought for every inch of this status. If I lose that glory to protect a man like Alpha Zander… well, I don’t think my grandfather will be too mad at me when I see him at the Moon Goddess’s side.”
