Lance kept his voice steady, refusing to sound like he was begging for a favor.

“Lycan Erasmus, Ulrik was the lead general on the ground in Snowdeer Town. He can’t just act like he wasn’t there when the blood was spilled.”
The air in the room turned to ice.
Lycan Erasmus froze for a second, then let out a sharp, cold snort.
Fabian dropped to the floor instantly, his knees hitting the tiles with a heavy thud. He stayed bowed low, the scent of pure panic leaking out as Lycan Erasmus‘ aura crushed the room.
Lycan Erasmus’s gaze landed on Lance, simmering with a thin layer of rage like a gathering storm.
“You were the commander who took back the Southern Border. Let me ask you–if we pin this on Ulrik, does Zander, the man in charge of the entire Bloodscar front, get a free pass?”
“No.”
Lance looked up, meeting the King’s fierce eyes across the desk without flinching.
Lycan Erasmus cranked up the aura. The omegas in the room started breathing in shallow gasps, their bodies leaning back as if an invisible weight was trying to shove them into the floor.
“Then why drag another general into the dirt?”
His voice was low and dangerous.
“The Western Tribe hasn’t even landed yet. I don’t plan on bringing this up myself, and I’m not punishing Zander or Velda until they get here. Everything we’re doing right now is just a show for the ambassadors.”
He paused, his eyes narrowing into slits.
“I know you and Ulrik have a history. He was Adelaide’s former mate. I get it–you don’t like the guy. But you’re a high–ranking official. You need to focus on the big picture, not use this as a chance to kick an Alpha you hate–and definitely not as an excuse to defy me.”
He drew out his last words, “You’re starting to disappoint me.”
Lance’s wolf remained calm. He didn’t cower, and he didn’t back down.
“With all due respect, Lycan Erasmus, this isn’t about a grudge.”
His scent remained flat, completely unbothered.
“When Ulrik marched into Snowdeer Town, Zander was unconscious and clinging to life. As the supreme commander of Bloodscar, Zander failed to keep his troops from slaughtering civilians. That’s on him.”
“However,” Lance continued, “if you leave Ulrik out of this, all Zander is guilty of is a bad call in personnel. Once the Western Tribe

sees that, the stakes change. They won’t settle for an apology, they’ll demand Zander’s head.”
Lycan Erasmus’s eyes flashed.
“Zander picked the wrong man for the job. That’s a fair charge.”
“It isn’t,” Lance countered.

“Ulrik did his job–he burned the supplies. In that sense, he was the right pick. The real problem was Velda. And Velda wasn’t one of Zander’s soldiers; she was Ulrik’s personal recruit. Zander sent Ulrik to Snowdeer Town, but Ulrik chose to bring Velda along. He didn’t have to.”
He paused.
“I believe Ulrik was already involved with Velda on the front lines. He wanted to give his mistress a chance at glory, so he brought
her. He owns that mistake.”
“I’ll decide who owns what,” Lycan Erasmus snapped, his voice heavy with fury.
“This case isn’t your job. You’re overstepping. And your little theory? That’s all it is–a guess, not a fact.”
“That’s exactly why I want the Marshals to bring him in,” Lance said, his tone perfectly level.
“If bringing Velda along had nothing to do with their ‘affair, then the questioning will prove it.”
“You’re being stubborn,” Lycan Erasmus’s voice rose.
‘The second he steps into that interrogation room and signs a statement, he’s officially part of the mess.”
Lance waited a beat before responding.
‘Lycan Erasmus, you and I both know he’s already part of the mess.”
He looked the Lycan King in the eye.
‘Do you think the world is blind? The soldiers at Bloodscar know. The people on that land know. The Western Tribe has been plotting this for years–you think they haven’t done their homework? We can’t fix this by just scapegoating a few people and calling t a day.”
