Third Person’s POV
“But Alpha Howell skipped town tonight,” Adelaide said, lost in thought.
“After that stunt failed, Damian probably doesn’t trust him as far as he can throw him.”
Craig looked at her, his expression as dark as a storm cloud over a wasteland.
“What if Howell and Damian aren’t the real masterminds? That hit was obviously meant for you. But what if they have a Plan B? What if the real target is Zander?”
Adelaide followed that train of thought, and a chill seeped into her bones.
Germain. That old fox was exactly the type to pull a move like that.
The group meticulously re–examined Velda’s actions.
She had mapped out her escape route long ago; she’d been planning this for a while.
But she knew Lycan King Erasmus had Royal Sentries watching her estate like hawks. She also knew that the moment she lost the protection of the Bloodmoon Pack, she’d likely be assassinated.
So, she played the waiting game until the Marshals kicked in her door.
She had wanted Ulrik to cover her escape, but that fell through.
Once she was caught, she pinned everything on Alpha Zander–likely on orders from the true mastermind. It was her only bargaining chip to stay alive.
However, the Marshals taking Ulrik in for questioning had wrecked her plan.
She was forced to change her story because she couldn’t let Ulrik take the fall. If she stuck to the “Zander gave the orders” script, Ulrik–as the commanding general on the ground–would only face a heavier
sentence.
So, she claimed the massacre was her idea alone.
She went through all that trouble to shield Ulrik because she knew he was her only hope for an outside
rescue.
“I’m curious about one thing,” Paisley suddenly spoke up
“How does Velda expect Ulrik–on his own–to rescue her from a prison carriage guarded by dozens of Western elite fighters?”
Klein’s deep eyes slowly turned toward Adelaide.
After a moment of silence, he asked, “Tell me: if Alpha Zander was actually hauled away as a war criminal, would you take Blackthorn soldiers and intercept–that carriage?”

“Yes,” Adelaide answered instantly, without a shred of doubt.

Klein gave a cold nod. “There it is. That’s Velda’s endgame. The ‘muscle‘ she’s counting on to hijack that carriage isn’t Ulrik. It’s you.”
Paisley grit her teeth.
“That bitch… her plan is as twisted as she is. Though, I’ve gotta admit, I’m a little surprised Ulrik spilled the whole thing.”
Surprise or not, Paisley still couldn’t stand the guy. A male wolf that weak didn’t deserve to be called an Alpha.
Craig let out a sigh, his pine–scented pheromones tinged with exhaustion.
“We’ll just have to see how the negotiations play out. If Germain really is up to something, he’ll have to make his move soon.”
“Yeah.” Adelaide nodded and stood up. “I’m going to get some rest.”
As she walked away, Klein watched her back, a flicker of genuine sympathy crossing his eyes before he let out a soft sigh.
That tiny shift in expression didn’t escape Craig’s notice.
Craig didn’t dare say a word; he immediately looked down and started studying the patterns on the floor.
“What are you staring at?” Klein barked, pointing toward the door.
Craig jumped. “Right. I’m going to sleep, too.”
Late into the night, Lance and Prunella returned to the estate at almost the same time.
Prunella slipped into the war room first to report the results to Craig.
“The gold coins and crystals in Howell’s convoy have been swapped out for scrap metal.”
“Good.” Klein didn’t even look up. “Did they notice?”
A smirk played on Prunella’s lips.
“When they stopped to rest in the woods, we hit them with a sleeping draft. The whole team was out cold while we worked.”
“You have agents following them?”
“Don’t worry, sir,” she replied respectfully.
“I’ve got it all under control.”
When word got out that Lance was back, Adelaide and Paisley hurried back to the room, desperate for an
