Chapter 824

Third Person’s POV

“You’re flatterring yourself.” Adelaide raised an eyebrow, her expression cold. “I have enough military reports on my desk to keep me busy all day. I don’t have time to dig into your personal drama. So, tell me–why were you really kicked out of your pack?”

Wanda’s face turned bright red instantly.

“Why else? Because I didn’t produce an heir! Don’t act like you don’t know. Is there a single wolf in this city who hasn’t heard? For that one reason, he didn’t just reject me-he’s already about to mate with some young she-wolf! Is that answer enough for you?”

Grief and humiliation poured out of her like a flood, her unstable aura leaking into the room.

“You’d hold a funeral for that woman who jumped in the river, and you’d give bread to the beggars downtown, but you won’t take me in?!” she shrieked.

“Or is your ‘kindness’ just a show for the high society? Do you think I’m not worthy of your help?!”

Harper caught Adelaide’s eye and gave a subtle shake of her head. Her look said it all: There’s more to this story.

Adelaide

gave a barely perceptible nod. She agreed.

The Glenveil Pack was known for being fair and level-headed.

As far as Harper knew, Wanda’s mate, Winslow, had several breeders on the side. One of them, Sabrina, was a favorite.

Those women had already provided Winslow with plenty of pups. He could easily pick the strongest one as his heir; there was zero reason for him to use infertility as a ground for a formal rejection.

Adelaide had also crossed paths with the old Luna of Glenveil, Rowena, a few times.

Before Adelaide and Lance mated, Rowena had even sent her an expensive bracelet as a gift. She didn’t believe the Glenveil wolves would be so heartless.

Wanda was lying.

Seeing both Adelaide and Paisley looking at her with suspicion, Wanda let out a furious howl.

Chapter 824

“I knew it! You’re all hypocritical bitches! You don’t want to help an abandoned woman like me! Fine! I’ll go out on the street right now and tell everyone what a scam this place is!

Despite the big talk, her butt didn’t move an inch from the chair.

Adelaide frowned. She wasn’t sure how to handle this.

She’d come here thinking Wanda was just trying to cause trouble, but the woman genuinely looked like a stray. Had she really fallen this far after being exiled?

“If you think this place is a scam, then get the hell out!” Paisley snapped, her voice full of disgust.

“You think I want to stay in this dump?” Wanda snorted.

She looked like she wanted to say something nastier, but when she saw Adelaide’s dark expression, she flinched and swallowed her words.

“If you don’t like it, leave,” Paisley sneered. “You’re a joke. Did you think this was your private vacation home?”

“I’m staying! I want to see just how fake you people can be!”

Wanda’s spiteful eyes were locked onto Harper. Harper’s face was pale with rage, her body trembling.

To keep the elegant lady from having a breakdown, Adelaide spoke up.

“Luna Harper, we’ll take it from here. Why don’t you go back to your estate and get some rest?”

Harper had reached her limit with Wanda’s sour, arrogant attitude left.

anyway. She nodded and

Once she was gone, the temperature in the room seemed to drop a few more degrees.

Adelaide looked Wanda dead in the eye.

“Go home and wait. I’m going to have people look into your story. If you were really kicked. out just because you couldn’t have kids, we’ll take you in. But only if you actually need the help.”

“What’s there to check?! I told you the truth!” Wanda panicked.

“If I’d committed some unforgivable crime, you wouldn’t need to check-Glenveil would

have handed me over to the Marshals already!”

“Wanda, don’t take me for a fool,” Adelaide’s voice went cold.

“You own several villas and at least a few profitable shops. That’s enough to live a very comfortable life. I don’t believe Glenveil would seize all your assets before kicking you out

Wanda squeezed her legs together, her fingers white as she gripped her sleeves.
