Now, I knew the truth. 

That money never went to his mom. 

Jessica had taken it, and Benjamin had let his mother die. 

I thought about how much my mom had loved Benjamin, how she'd treated him like her own son. 

And then I remembered. 

Benjamin, cold and emotionless, driving straight over my parents without a second thought. 

The sound of their screams echoed in my ears, their terrified voices begging for help. 

The image of their broken bodies flashed before my eyes, and I felt tears burning again. 

My chest heaved with anger, but after a few deep breaths, I forced myself to calm down. 

I reassured my parents and called a rideshare to take them home. 

Benjamin hovered the whole time, playing the perfect gentleman. 

He opened the car door for them, helped them inside, and waved with a smile as they drove off. 

If I hadn't lived through it all before, I might have fallen for his act again. 

As soon as the car was out of sight, Benjamin turned and pulled me into a hug. 

"Sophia, please believe me."

"I would never lie to you." 

I cut him off coldly.

"Benjamin, did Jessica ever give you the money?" 

Back then, when his mom was sick, I was swamped with my dissertation defense. 

Jessica had offered to help. 

"Your future mother-in-law needs surgery, and you can't even show up?"

"At least send some money." 

"I'll go see her and deliver the cash myself." 

But in my past life, Benjamin had accused me of refusing to help his mom. 

The only explanation was that Jessica had never given him the money. 

Just as I was about to reach out to Jessica, she called me. 

"When you're dead, I'll burn some fake cash for you."

"That should keep you comfortable in hell." 

She'd even sent me a photo of her and Benjamin in bed together. 

That was when I realized they'd been cheating on me all along. 

I met Jessica at a Starbucks downtown. 

As soon as I walked in, she rushed over. 

"Sophia, you have to help me this time!" 

I brushed her off casually.

"What's wrong?" 

She lowered her voice.

"Sophia, can you lend me some money?" 

I took a sip of my coffee and gave her a cool look.
