As Xingxie and Yuyan walked through the manor, many servants had to greet them. However some pretended not to see them, totally ignoring them. In the past, Xingxie could have careless if they greeted her or not but that lead to them not truly respecting her status.
As Xingxie passed by the servants who acted as if she didn't exist, she stopped.
"Eldest Miss?" Yuyan was confused because Xingxie usually ignored them.
The servants noticed this as well but paid no mind to her.
"It seems like the servants in this household has certainly forgotten their places." Xingxie declared loud enough for many to hear.
Hearing her words, the servants nervously looked at each other.
"I, Wu Xingxie am the Eldest Di of the Wu family. According to the rules, you servants know that you should all stop what you are doing and greet me." Xingxie reminded not in an angry way but in a passive aggressive manner. She didn't sound domineering or haughty.
Yuyan understood what Xingxie was implying so she scolded the servants on the side.
"How presumptuous! You dare to disrespect the Eldest Miss of the house?"
The servants fell to their knees instantly.
What happened?
The Eldest Miss never acted this way.
She always treated them kindly and had a smile on her face.
Today, the Eldest Miss seemed a bit different.
"Just because I am a benevolent person, does not mean I will tolerate the level of disrespect in this manor." Xingxie stated before whispering a command to Yuyan.
"All of you who didn't greet the Eldest Miss properly, go and take your punishment of 15 spanks. Otherwise when the Eldest Miss returns and you haven't, there will be more consequences." Yuyan told them. The servants thanked Xingxie before running off to receive their punishment.
Xingxie and Yuyan continued to Xuan's room which was about 10 minutes away from her own.
Yuyan was still surprised by her miss's strange actions but she was actually glad. Many servants had been acting like Xingxie didn't live here since she moved in. She never questioned why Xingxie never reprimanded them but now that she did, Yuyan felt proud of her master.
This change was a good thing.
On the bed was a young boy. Since the age of 4, he had been sickly. Although he was 1, he looked like an 8 year old boy. His body was thin and his face pale from sickness.
He was trying not to cry because boys don't cry. At least that's what his other half-brothers told him.
As he coughed, there came a knocking on his door.
"Who is it?" He asked, thinking it was a servant bringing him food.
"It's me." Xingxie replied to him softly.
Hearing his older sister's voice, Xuan smiled before telling her to come in.
Xingxie's heart broke when she saw her precious little brother on the bed. She heard him coughing before coming in.
In the past, she didn't have enough time to check on him because her father made her study so much. He raised her to be skilled in so many things while showing no affection towards her. If ever, Xingxie rarely saw her father. When she did, she held no resentment towards him. As a father, she believed that he only wanted the best for her after all.
Walking closer to the bed, Xingxie told Yuyan to wait outside.
Xuan smiled at his older sister. He hadn't seen her since her birthday celebration a month ago. He looked up to her very much because she was talented and able to cultivate. On the other hand, Xuan wasn't able to so his parents didn't hold him in high regards. Even with all the bullying from other people, he never once complained.
"Xuan'er, what's wrong?" Xingxie's voice was filled with love and worry. Before, she believed he would be saved by the physicians but who would have known, he died so suddenly. They claimed it was because of a chronic illness that couldn't be cured so no one found anything suspicious.
If only that were the case. After Xuan passed away, Xingxie devoted herself to learning more about medicine. She was a quick learner so with her medical skills, she would be able to save him this time.
"Jiejie, Xuan has been sick years. I didn't tell you because I knew you would visit but I don't want you to get my illness."
Wu Xuan was a very honest kid. He was also very good at hiding his emotions.
"Let this sister check your pulse. I will never let anyone hurt you again." Xingxie told him as she held his skinny arms.
After feeling his pulse, Xingxie's blood began to boil. He was really poisoned!
"A venomous toxin. From a glance, one wouldn't even realize it was there. Even when tasting it, nothing would seem strange. It's a very rare nameless toxin." She explained.
"How did you know I was being poisoned?" Xuan asked in disbelief. He always believed he was born with the illness but now, that was not true.
"Don't let anyone know about this." Xingxie pleaded. Xuan nodded in response. He didn't trust anyone but those who he was really close with.
"I will find a way to get you to move in with me. In the mean time, I will also make the antidote for you." Xingxie said and hugged him.
Poor child, how can anyone harm him?
Xingxie had a feeling of who was behind this. She just needed evidence.
"Yuyan, take the tray back and tell them it's too salty for Xuan'er's taste." She ordered.
In a courtyard of the Wu manor, multiple servants were getting spanked for failing to greet the Eldest Miss.
While the last servant was getting ready to take their turn, a beautiful woman entered.
She was wearing a blue hanfu that had buterfly embroidery on it. She was of average height and had black hair that was arranged with silver hair pins.
Her appearance was elegant and as she entered, the servant and guards all stopped to greet her. Even those who could barely stand had to pay their respects.
Concubine Xi heard there was a commotion and the servants were receiving discipline.
After hearing it was the Eldest Miss who ordered their punishment, Concubine Xi came over to see for herself. However, Xingxie wasn't there. Of course, she didn't have to be there if she didn't want to.
"Where is the Eldest Miss?" Concubine asked one of the guards.
"Lady Xi, Eldest Xi is currently at Seventh Young Master's chambers."
The guard replied clearly.
Concubine Xi nodded before gesturing them to continue with the punishment. She had no intentions to help them. Xingxie finally stood up for herself so this was a good thing.
