Oliver, seeing his father's confident expression, felt reassured. After all, his dad was smart and resourceful. His mom was angry, sure, but she was always so careful around Dad. She was only throwing a tantrum because he was cold to her. If Dad just coaxed her a little, she would definitely come back with them.

After Adrian and Oliver left, Julian also departed from the villa. He had to find a way to intercept Adrian.

Inside, only Isabel, Evelyn, and Edmund remained.

Evelyn scoffed. "He's unbelievable."

Isabel agreed. She paid the father and son no mind, instead stroking Edmund's head and asking him what he wanted to eat.

"I'm not picky, Mommy. Anything is fine," Edmund said.

Isabel smiled and turned towards the kitchen.

Evelyn immediately followed. "I'm craving your cooking, but you're not to strain yourself. Leave all the heavy work to me. You just direct."

"I'll help too!" Edmund raised his hand obediently. "Mommy, I can peel garlic and wash vegetables."

Isabel wasn't completely incapacitated; she just couldn't do anything that required fine motor skills. A few simple home-cooked dishes were still manageable. But with Evelyn and Edmund looking at her with such eager eyes, she relented and assigned them tasks.

Martha had been sick for the past couple of days, and Isabel had told her to rest well. It was a good thing she wasn't here; otherwise, Adrian would have been even more suspicious.

"Next time, even if you have to die at the gate, you'll stop them from getting in," Julian instructed his men outside.

"Yes, sir!"

When Julian returned from handling matters outside, he was greeted by a warm, harmonious scene in the kitchen. If only Evelyn weren't there, it would be perfect. The world knew Richard as a doting husband who took his wife everywhere, constantly stuck to her side. So why had Evelyn been spending so much time at his place lately?

"What's Richard been up to?" he asked.

Evelyn handed him the knife she was holding. "The onion-chopping is all yours. I need to go video call my husband." As she left, she winked at Julian several times.

Evelyn: You get it, right?

"His little legs move pretty fast," Julian remarked. He turned back to Isabel. "See? I told you kids are trouble."

Isabel smiled. "He's very cute, and so well-behaved and sensible."

She made some small talk. "What did his parents do? Was he an only child?"

Julian didn't answer directly, instead instructing her, "From now on, he's our son. Don't say anything else to anyone."

Sensing the gravity of the situation, Isabel didn't press further and simply agreed.

"You should go outside."

Julian didn't move. He gripped the handle of the cast-iron wok with his right hand and asked, "What's the first step?"
