Adrian replied, "Is that any of your business?"
Henry shot back, "Of course it is. I need to know whether I should be calling her Selena or Mrs. Blackwell."
"I'm busy. See yourself out."
Sensing the distinct chill in his voice, Henry decided not to push his luck. He waved and left.

On the west side of the city.
Isabel got out of the car and saw a large, empty plot of land that had already been tilled, ready for planting.
She asked, "When did you do all this?"
Dylan explained, "It's my grandmother's land. She always loved to plant things, but it's been empty since she passed away all those years ago. My grandfather comes by to turn the soil sometimes, but he never plants anything."
Isabel crouched down and scooped up a handful of soil with her left hand to examine it.
"I have to be upfront, I'm not sure I can do a good job of this."
She had only ever helped her grandmother with a very small herb patch when she was alive. After her grandmother passed, she hadn't planted anything since. Her mother had high expectations for her, and she had to study many different things, leaving no time for gardening. Later, when she started at the lab and her mother needed care for her cancer, she had even less time.
She had always partnered with the Walsh's herb garden.
But she had never been the one to make contact; it was always either Dylan or old Mr. Foster.
"The lab has enough supplies for now. You can start by experimenting. If it doesn't work out, I'll figure something else out."
"The Walsh family aren't the only ones who grow these herbs."
Isabel countered, "But the Walsh family is the most suitable. They're close, and because they're wealthy, the quality of their herbs is excellent."
Dylan wasn't concerned. "I don't like being at someone else's mercy."
She had to agree.
Adrian's temper was unpredictable.
Who knew if he would suddenly cut off their supply of herbs again?
Thinking of this, she suddenly had a realization.
Isabel nodded. There was no need to hide it from him. "Since she took half of the Y-2 formula, I'm not going to continue that research. I want to try a new direction."
"What direction?"
"Our previous research focused on cancer in a broad sense, after it has already formed, requiring medication for control or cure. But we haven't done much research on prevention."
Dylan's eyes lit up. "You're right. Besides individual health issues, genetics play a huge role in cancer. People with a family history of cancer often develop it at a young age. If we could prevent it, avoiding the disease altogether would be far less painful than getting it and then seeking treatment."
Isabel nodded. "But this is just a concept for now. The immediate priority is to continue the Y-series. Y-1 only targets cervical cancer. We still have a lot of work to do on other types."
Dylan couldn't hide his excitement. "Now that you're back, I know we can do it."
Isabel didn't share his level of confidence.
After all, she had been away from the field for six years.
But you couldn't show weakness.
"We'll work together. We can definitely do it."
