When Isabel and Dylan returned to the lab, Selena was already inside, working alone.

They changed into their lab coats and went in. She was busy recording something.

Isabel didn't look, focusing on her own tasks.

But Selena approached her. "Isabel, I'm sorry about last night. I was trying to help you and Adrian communicate, but I just made things worse. Is your hand okay?"

Isabel hadn't thought about it too deeply before.

But now it clicked.

If Selena had taken the partial Y-2 formula from her computer, then she knew Isabel had conducted research on the Y-series drugs.

And if she knew that, then she definitely didn't want Isabel's right hand to heal.

The snowstorm could be dismissed as an accident, but the incident with Dr. Lawson and what happened last night at Halcyon Hills Residence—those were all calculated.

She feigned concern to probe the extent of the injury, all while looking for another opportunity to cripple her hand for good.

If it weren't for a bit of luck on her side, her right hand would probably be useless for even holding a fork by now.

"Selena, I have been patient with you for a long time. Do whatever you want, I don't care. But stop with the fake concern. Our friendship ended the day your mother showed up with her son and forced my mother and me out of our home."

"If you keep pushing your way into my life just to make me miserable, don't blame me for not being polite."

This wasn't the first time Selena had seen Isabel lash out at her.

She didn't care.

This was exactly what she wanted—for Isabel to get angry, to lose her temper and attack her.

That way, she could always be the victim.

But with Adrian not around, it was best to keep it brief.

"Mr. Foster, I have some data. Could you come take a look?"

Selena was professionally competent, so Dylan couldn't fault her there.

He just gave her a warning look, telling her to stop bothering Isabel.

Selena replied sweetly, "You must be joking, Mr. Foster. I've been trying to mend my relationship with Isabel, and I genuinely want her and Adrian to make up and live happily ever after."

It wasn't exactly something to be proud of.

So she decided to just let it be. An elevator ride wasn't that long.

But when the elevator doors opened, the scene before her made her freeze.

"Auntie Selena!" Oliver ran up to Selena, holding a large bouquet of white roses. "Happy birthday!"

"Thank you, Oliver." Selena patted his head.

"You're welcome." Without even a glance at Isabel, Oliver took Selena's hand and led her to the car. "Daddy already booked a table at your favorite restaurant!"

Before getting into the car, Selena shot a meaningful look at Isabel.

Adrian's car quickly drove away.

Even though the windows were tinted, Isabel knew Adrian was in the back.

And she could imagine how harmonious and loving their little family of three looked.
