Westbridge was already adorned with festive lights and decorations.
The cold snap passed just as the holiday arrived.
Combined with different New Year decorations, it created a warm, hopeful atmosphere.
Isabel had thought that if she could get the divorce finalized, the new year would truly be a new beginning.
But that wish didn't come true.
So her new wish was to have a smooth divorce after the holiday.
“Isabel, why don’t you come to my place for the celebration?” Amanda suggested to Isabel during lunch. “It’s just the three of us, not a big crowd.”
Before Isabel could answer, Dylan cut in. “She has to come to my place. My grandfather gave me strict orders to bring her over. They have things to discuss.”
Amanda knew Isabel was acquainted with old Mr. Foster and said with a sigh, “Well, I guess I’ll have to step aside then.”
Isabel, who could now use chopsticks with her right hand as well as before, smiled. “I’ll come see you after the third day of the holiday.”
Amanda nodded. “I’ll be waiting.”
Selena never ate with them.
She had her own personal chef and a dedicated assistant to run errands.
Even though the lab’s cafeteria was of a high standard, she looked down on it.
She always ate in the upstairs lounge, enjoying meals from high-end restaurants.
Some of the ingredients were even air-freighted.
But no one dared to say anything.
She had Adrian backing her.
And her skills and expertise were top-notch.
Apart from an occasional remark from Amanda, who knew the truth, even Dylan rarely said anything anymore.
But today, Selena was eating in the cafeteria.
And she already had a group of people fawning over her.
Although many in the lab knew Isabel from before, there was still a sense of competition.
Especially among the newcomers.
How brilliant Isabel used to be was now a taboo subject.
A mere assistant, no matter how skilled in the past, couldn't compare to the radiant Selena of the present.
Amanda pursed her lips and whispered to Isabel, “Look at her, so proud of herself with your achievements.”
Isabel said goodbye to her colleagues and went to Lab 1.
She had no intention of getting involved; she was just waiting for Dylan, as old Mr. Foster had invited her to his place for the holiday.
But while she was tidying up another area, Selena bumped into her, a test tube in hand.
The liquid splashed onto her right hand. By the time Isabel realized what had happened, it was already corroding her skin.
Dylan immediately performed first aid, pulling her away and rushing to the hospital.
Selena followed them to the hospital.
She apologized profusely the entire way, tears streaming down her face.
But Isabel was in too much pain to listen, her lips pale.
She couldn't even speak.
Dylan floored the accelerator. Thankfully, the roads were mostly empty, and they reached the hospital quickly.
Dr. Lawson, having received Dylan’s call, rushed over and took Isabel into the emergency room.
As Dylan watched the light above the emergency room door turn on, the reality of the situation slowly sank in.
He never hit women, but he couldn't stop himself from raising his hand.
