But nothing happened.
The weight of the rogue was suddenly lifted off me. I blinked my eyes open and looked around.
I watched as a large black wolf wrestled against the rogue.
The black wolf was truly magnificent. His midnight black fur shined under the moonlight. It stood tall and radiated power. It fought effortlessly, its moves were elegant and flawless.
My eyes began drooping but I fought to keep them open. I laid on my side as I tried to stay awake to look at the wolf.
The black wolf clamped his jaw around the rogues neck and ripped off a chuck of flesh and spat it to the side. It turned and I saw blood smeared over his snout and fur.
His eyes were glowing emerald green and were mesmerising.
I could feel my consciousness slipping away then I fell flat on the forest floor and my eyes began fluttering shut.
The last thing I heard was a small whine as something soft brushed against my cheek.

"Try and catch me mommy!" The nine year old me giggled.
"I'm coming to get you little wolf" she yelled playfully from behind me as she chased me through the park.
I giggled while she laughed and soon she caught me, wrapping her arms around me and lifting me into the air making me squeal.
"Here comes the tickle monster" she teased then began tickling my sides. I giggled uncontrollably and tears streamed down my face.
"Momma stop" I squealed.
"I love you little wolf" she smiled and kissed my forehead.
"I love you too momma" I grinned.
The scene then changed drastically.
The once bright, clear blue skies were now a dark and cloudy grey.
The sharp, green grass and the brightly coloured flowers all wilted and died away, leaving hard, cracked dirt in its place.
"Momma what's happening?" I cried.
"Don't worry little wolf" she smiled nervously down at me and held me closer.
A group of wolves then jumped out from behind bushes and trees and stood in front of us. I screamed and jumped back behind my mom.
"Momma I'm scared" I said as I buried my face in her leg and tears streamed down my face.
"Momma's here baby, don't worry."
"Shh shh shh. It's ok. It's ok. Calm down baby" a voice cooed in my ear and tightened their hold as I struggled.
I tried using my arms to push the person away but their grip tightened and they continued cooing in my ear.
I let out sob as I dropped my arms in defeat and the person rested their chin on my head.
After my cries calmed down I became aware of a throbbing pain in my shoulder and leg. I winced and raised one of the hands to my shoulder and felt a soft fabric covering it.
"Are you ok now?" He asked softly. I nodded slowly and he hesitantly removed his grip from me.
I instantly wrapped my arms around myself and kept my head down. I still didn't know who this stranger was but I couldn't deny the feeling of protection and comfort I got from him.
"Can I know your name?" He asked. I didn't reply and kept my gaze down.
"Can you at least look at me?" He asked sadly and I replied with frantically shaking my head.
"Why not?" He asked, confusion lacing his tone. I shook my head in reply as my hands began trembling.
"Hey, it's ok. You don't need to be scared. I'd never hurt you" he soothed as he wrapped his large warm hands around my small cold ones.
I flinched back but felt my body relax at his touch. The sense of warmth and safety filled me as tingles erupted where his skin touched mine.
"I won't hurt you, please look at me" he spoke sadly as he gently squeezed my hands. I let out a shaky breath before complying with his wish.
I slowly lifted my gaze and connected with his. My breath caught in my throat as my eyes locked with his.
