Sydney Carrington's POV
"Next week, you'll be mine."
I smiled up at Will and nodded, "Yeah. You'll be mine too." We exchanged excited smiles and he leaned forward to kiss me. "I love you Sydney."
My heart fluttered at his words and I couldn't help the broad smile on my face from his words. "I love you too Will." I caressed his cheek softly enjoying the smooth skin on his jaw.
I ran my fingers through his blonde sandy hair and kissed him eagerly and I could feel Will smile against my lips before kissing me back hungrily.
I pulled away and leaned my forehead against his and smiled up at him, "I have to go. I think Sarah is calling for me." Will groaned and sighed, "Five more minutes?"
I laughed and stood up and smoothed my dress down before pulling him up. "Why? After next week, we'll be together for the rest of our lives and maybe you'll get sick of me by then."
"You know I won't. I love you Syd, I gotta go. Duty awaits." He gave one last kiss on my lips before sprinting off and I smiled happily to myself. By next week, I'll be together with the love of my life-Will. However, I was reluctant to leave my elder sister by herself in our home with our younger brother Sean.
Sarah was my older sister and the only family I have besides my younger brother who was still in high school. She was twenty-five and still unmated. Sean was fifteen and as he was a male wolf, he would be more aggressive as he became older. And because of that, I was worried on how Sarah would deal with him considering I was more patient than she is.
I didn't know why she was still on her own, I knew it was because she had put me and Sean first after our parents died when I was ten and she fifteen. Thus the guilt I was feeling. But it was okay. We were still going to be in the same pack and I could visit her anytime I wanted which was everyday.
In a way, I owed a lot to my sister. Without her, I wouldn't be where I am today. "Sydney!" My sister yelled and I entered the house to see her waiting for me with an impatient expression on her face. "Yes?"
I asked curiously as she threw a duffel bag at me. "Come on! Don't just stand there! Pack! You're leaving tomorrow with Will in the morning aren't you? For the season."
I gaped at her, I had completely forgot that Will and I were travelling together to the ceremonial grounds the very next day in the morning. "Right. Thanks for reminding me. I completely forgot." I gave a sheepish grin to Sarah who in turn rolled her eyes at me, "Only you Syd. Only you. Now go pack. You're going to be mine tonight before you'll be mated. Ice-cream and Netflix?"
I laughed and nodded, "Sure. As long its peppermint flavoured." Sarah nodded, "Of course. I would never forget. Now go pack so I can spend the rest of the day with you."
I gave her an excited grin before making my way to my bedroom and began packing all the necessary items. This year I would be turning twenty, and as a result, I was able to participate in the Mating Season. Will was five years older than me and this year, we would finally be together.
The Mating Season was a period of time where wolves could be together with their mates officially. It occurred only once a year and spanned across a week. The Alpha King would be there to sign the documents and to be there as witness as the pair of wolves would drink a concoction where the souls of both wolves would be tied and bonded. The pair of wolves who chose to be together would be bonded even further after marking and mating and this bond couldn't be severed especially after that.
The ceremony that was going to take place was a few days away in neutral territory among all the packs and Will and I would arrive just in time for it. As werewolves, everyone had a choice in who their mate was. But once you decided who you wanted, there was no going back.
Alphas and other higher ranking wolves got to choose their mates first to strengthen their bloodline. And as Will was a beta, we would be the first few to be together. And I couldn't wait. Any wolf could participate but as long you were twenty and above.
"We can still have our movie marathons, I'll come over or you'll come over." I suggested and Sarah smile softly at me. "Yeah. You better. But you're my baby sister. I'll miss taking care of you. Because now Will is going to do that." She says wistfully.
Slightly sad at the sombre atmosphere, I teased to liven up the mood, "Says the one who had to be taken care of by me when said person drank way too much during prom."
Sarah gasped and shot me a glare as her cheeks turned pink, "I thought we agreed to never bring that up!" I laughed and Sarah lunged herself at me and began tickling me.
At that moment, my life seemed perfect but I should've known, after today, everything was going to hell.
Sydney Carrington's POV
"Oh god. I can't believe this is happening." I breathed out excitedly as I sat beside Will in his car. Others from our pack who were going to participate in the Season were travelling together with us as well.
The rest of the pack remained back home along with our alpha and once we were back, there would be a huge celebration for the newly mated wolves.
Will took my hand and grinned at me, "Neither can I." He murmured and I smiled up at him. We continued driving and soon entered a town where we would be having a pitstop.
