Nathaniel sneered. "She's too busy making money to support me and bother me with anything else. After work, she will go to the market to scrounge up leftovers for dinner."

After a brief pause, he added, "It wouldn't matter if she did find out. She shouldn't even think about getting a penny from me. I've got plenty of ways to make sure she settles for nothing if we divorce."

The blood drained from my face.

I looked up just in time to see a glamorous woman walk in - it was Samantha.

As soon as she entered, everyone started praising her for looking younger and more beautiful.

Coincidentally, a waiter came in with food, and the box door opened. I caught a glimpse of Samantha sitting beside Nathaniel. They gazed at each other, their eyes sparkling.

Samantha touched the diamond necklace around her neck and cooed, "I love the necklace. Thank you so much, Nathaniel."

Nathaniel smiled slyly. "I'm glad you like it."

He was so generous with his first love, giving her a necklace worth four hundred thousand, while in his eyes, I wasn't even worth a two-hundred-dollar handbag.

I couldn't bear to listen any longer. I stumbled out of the restaurant, nearly tripping down the stairs.

Once outside, I lost it and sobbed inconsolably.

For the past three years, I had loved Nathaniel wholeheartedly.

I worried about him working so hard every day and would cook various soups to help him recuperate.

I used only budget skincare products, saving up to buy him decent clothes and shoes while telling him I'd gotten them on sale.

Nathaniel would always call me smart.

But the truth was, I was so silly!

By the time night fell, I returned home to find Nathaniel cooking in the kitchen.

Hearing me come in, he peeked his head out with a silly grin.

"Hey, babe, you're back! Dinner's ready."

He was in an apron, squeezed into that tiny kitchen. It was hard to believe he was actually a wealthy heir.

While stir-frying, he said, "Babe, the fish is super fresh today. The boss even knocked off two bucks for me."

"Oh, and I sold all the cardboard boxes I had saved up for half a month. I made sixty-eight bucks, and even after buying groceries, I still have five left."

I shut my eyes, heart twisted in knots.

Nathaniel was putting on quite the show for me.

I trembled, asking, "Nathaniel, do you love me?"

Nathaniel smiled gently. "Of course, I love you. You're the most important woman in my life."

I looked into his eyes, recalling every word he had said in the restaurant; each word pierced my heart like bullets.

The truth was that he looked down on me, seeing me as a mere distraction, worthless trash.

Maybe I was just a stepping stone for him to win back his first love.

So when he said he loved me, I only felt disgust.

He was so hypocritical!

He reached out to hug me.

I stepped back, wiping away my tears, glaring at him. "Nathaniel, your acting is impressive."

Nathaniel looked confused. "Babe, what are you talking about?"

I grabbed my phone and showed him the image I saved from last night, choking back my words.

"Mr. Cary, are you done playing games yet?"
