Juniper: "Hello."
Channing's eyes flickered for a fraction of a second before he composed himself. "Hello, Ms. Payne."
"Coralie values you quite a bit." Juniper parted her red lips, her voice lazy. "Bodyguard Channing."
Channing froze again, entirely unsure of what she was implying.
"It's an honor to work for Ms. Quill," Channing replied, enunciating every word. There wasn't a trace of falsehood or flattery in his tone. "If she'll have me, I'd willingly work for her for the rest of my life."
Coralie: "?"
It was supposed to be a normal conversation, why was he casually throwing in a lifelong confession?!
"Juniper, Coralie, why aren't you guys coming in?"
Luella, who was already halfway inside, jogged back and called out, "The dresses and the designer are already here."
"Let's go."
Shanley stepped up right on cue, intertwining his fingers with his wife's.
"Mm."
Juniper looked away, walking straight inside without glancing back.
Shanley, however, cast a sidelong glance at Channing.
No wonder Juniper was suspicious.
Coralie's bodyguard possessed an aura that was anything but ordinary.
"What do you think?" Shanley leaned into Juniper's ear, whispering, "Should I have someone look into him?"
"Coralie doesn't like others interfering in her business."
Juniper shook her head, answering seriously. "Channing has been by her side for three years. If something were going to happen, it would have happened by now."
"Besides, she mentioned replacing him recently anyway. There's no need to pry!"
"Whatever you say." Shanley agreed, casting another glance back at Channing. "It's obvious he's completely in love with her, though."
A man's intuition was highly accurate when it came to these things.
"And Coralie's feelings for him..."
Juniper paused, unable to find the exact right words to describe it.
Coralie's heart wasn't easily moved.
After all.
Who could ever compete with a ghost?
—
At the entrance.
Coralie and Channing stared at each other in complete silence.
