Sylvia glanced at his soaked black shirt and said, “We’ll need to go back to Willowbrook Plaza today. I left a document there that I need to pick up.”

Gabriel nodded. “Let’s eat first, then we’ll go and get your document.”

Sylvia nodded in agreement.

Gabriel turned to her and asked, “Hot pot again?”

Sylvia looked out at the rain, her eyes suddenly bright. She turned back with a smile. “Let’s try some local J City food this time. I know a great spot.”

She mainly picked it because the restaurant’s view and atmosphere were perfect for watching the rain.

Gabriel nodded. “You’ll have to be my GPS.”

Sylvia pulled out her phone to look up the location.

Despite arriving late, they were lucky enough to find an excellent table—an elegant, airy spot overlooking all of J City.

On this rainy night, the city was wrapped in drifting mist and layered silhouettes—the landscape strangely captivating.

After dinner, they returned to Willowbrook Plaza.

Once inside, Sylvia told Gabriel to wait in the living room while she went to the study to look for her document.

When she emerged, she saw Gabriel sitting at the desk by the balcony, reading. On the desk were another book, the jade pendant he’d given her, the tourmaline bracelet from Old Mr. Jarvis, and some other keepsakes she’d bought over the New Year.

She’d stored all of these at the back of the lowest drawer, but after talking about returning to the Quintin family, she’d taken out the keychain and forgotten to put the rest away.

Sylvia walked over, pulled the book out of his hands, and raised her eyebrows in playful challenge, her voice laced with obvious possessiveness. “That’s mine!”

Gabriel caught her wrist and pulled her onto his lap. He glanced at her, then picked up the jade pendant and slipped it over her neck.
