Sylvia sat obediently on the bed as the warm air drifted over her. She felt the man’s strong, long fingers pressing gently on her head—the perfect amount of pressure, soothing and relaxing. Unable to help herself, she closed her eyes, even wanting to lean against him and drift off to sleep.

“I’m pretty impressive, aren’t I?” Sylvia asked suddenly with a smile, her eyes half-closed.

Gabriel smirked, the corners of his lips turning up. “I’m the one drying your hair. If it’s done well, that’s my accomplishment. How do you end up being the impressive one?”

Sylvia’s lashes curled, her red lips striking as she replied, a touch of pride in her voice, “Getting Gabriel to dry my hair—there’s no one else in all of Tripe who gets this treatment. Isn’t that impressive?”

Gabriel found her fixation on her own excellence both amusing and exasperating. He nodded lightly. “Impressive.”

Sylvia nodded in satisfaction. “You finally admit it!”

Gabriel’s fingers threaded through her soft, thick hair, his voice warm and teasing. “Should I give you an award for it?”

Sylvia replied, “No need, let’s keep it low-key.”

Gabriel couldn’t help but laugh.

Old Mr. Quintin waited especially for Evelyn to finish work and called her into his study. He first asked about her work with genuine concern, then spoke to her in earnest.

“Evelyn, tomorrow is Nana’s formal introduction. I hope you can attend. But if you’d rather not, you could spend the day shopping—buy anything you like. Just use Grandpa’s money as you please.”

Evelyn was moved. “Grandpa, you’re always so good to me. How could I be ungrateful? Of course I’ll be there for the introduction.”
