Marina thanked him again, turned, and walked toward the guest bedroom. After two steps, she finally realized what he meant. Her face flushed with anger, and she shot a fierce glare at his back.

Marina cursed him inwardly before letting out an exasperated laugh and pushing open the guest bedroom door.

After showering and lying in bed, she saw a message from her mother. It was an apology, telling her not to be angry, to get a good night's sleep, and to come home early tomorrow.

Reading it, Marina knew Carson had already informed her mother of her whereabouts.

She replied with a simple "good night."

Lying there, Marina replayed the whole situation in her head and admitted she bore some of the blame. When her mother called earlier to ask when she was coming home, she had only said she was busy.

She had been frantically buried in work at the time and hung up in a rush.

She really should have explained things more clearly to her family later on.

Then her thoughts drifted to Carson. Honestly, he really was quite wonderful—gentle, considerate, and perfectly respectful of boundaries.

Except, of course, when he was deliberately teasing her.

On the ride back to the apartment, the driver had taken the wheel. Carson had sat next to her in the passenger seat, and she had caught a faint whiff of perfume on him.

So, maybe he hadn't been at a business dinner at all. He was probably out on a date.

What a shame. She wondered at what point during the date she had interrupted him.

With her thoughts wandering, Marina gradually drifted off to sleep.

When a knock came at the door the next morning, she assumed it was her food delivery. Instead of a familiar courier uniform, she was greeted by two women in professional boutique attire.
