Chapter overview: Chapter 45 from Heaven And Hell

In this standout chapter of the Internet novel Heaven And Hell, Miss Schwarz introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

First was a tall guy of about six feet-two inches, his hair shaggy and fixed rakishly. His eyes were a deep blue like the ocean, had an aristocratic nose, and full, perfectly shaped lips. He was wearing a gray blazer with a blue polo, slightly open to reveal a bit of his chest. He had on black slacks and dark leather shoes, and his hand was in his pocket, standing casually beside a slender, tall girl.

She, on the other hand, was svelte in form, and graceful with her movements. Her hair was a lighter shade than her brother's, done up perfectly in an elegant bun. Her eyes were fierce and catlike, its color the shade of light blue like the mid-afternoon sky.

She was wearing a beautiful floral outfit that, instead of a dress, ended up being mini shorts. Her shoes were pumps with floral essences as well, about four inches high on the heels, making her look ethereal and willowy.

She was talking to Lady Rigby, while the guy...he was staring at me. Then he smiled -- a slow, gorgeous smile that could melt anyone's heart in a thrice.

I gulped. This wasn't good.

When Lady Rigby was finished talking with the girl, laughing delightfully as she went over to another one of her guests, the guy held his sister's arm gently and whispered something in her ear.

What was happening?

"Who the heck are they?" I queried, gaping at their perfection.

Kimberly didn't even pause for breath. "The girl's Natalie Wattson, and the handsome bloke's her brother, Anthony. Natalie's a supermodel and --"

The siblings were both staring at me now. Catlike, Natalie smirked at me, then she grinned at her brother, leaning over to whisper something in his ear that made him smile in return.

They began walking towards our direction.

"Also..." my friend went on. "Natalie's the ex-girlfriend of Michael."

I swore, Natalie Wattson was smiling at me gorgeously, but her eyes held dangerous animosity.

This was not good.

"I don't think I want to meet her," I muttered quickly.

"Too late," Kimberly said frantically. "She's coming closer!"

Just as I was about to escape, even if she was coming to my table, Natalie began to say pleasantly, in the friendliest and sweetest voice I'd ever heard in my entire life, "So you must be Michael's fiancée."

Natalie Wattson took the gold at being an evil witch. Oh, she didn't humiliate me or say anything bad at all, but there was something in her eyes that held the word danger and her kind voice hid the word cold animosity. I could tell.

Viv and I could fake our kindness when we didn't like someone, so it was pretty easy reading Natalie's expression.

She was good at playing fake -- that, I had to give her credit for. But her being too friendly in front of the public here at the Rigbys' garden party, in front of aristocrats and highly regarded people, was something that I couldn't handle very well.

It was, like, you thought she was the most beautiful angel you'd ever seen in your whole life, but once you saw what she was truly like deep inside, you'd think she was the very devil herself.

She blinked her round, catlike sky blue eyes, looking very innocent. "Well, yeah. I was only saying that Michael's been gone for two years because he met you, and you've been the center of his universe ever since."

Yeah right, I wanted to scoff, but stopped myself short.

Michael was counting on me to make people believe that he and I were a truly engaged couple. I couldn't let him down.

Plus, I'd totally like to see Natalie feel a little miffed when I mentioned something romantic -- or at least somewhat romantic -- about me and him.

I couldn't deny this, but yeah: I wanted to make Natalie Wattson jealous of us. Not because I only wanted her to be irked, but because I wanted her to see that my former archenemy and I were getting a long pretty well now.

I smiled smugly. Seeing my smile like that, Natalie frowned slightly.

"We met two years ago," I began, forcing some extra chirpiness into my voice. "Michael was a new student at my school back then, but we didn't talk to each other. Then one day my best friend Viv, and Michael's cousin Frederick, set us up on a blind date."

"Let me guess," Anthony piped in, chuckling, "you two fell bashfully in love and lived happily ever after?"

I slightly skinned him with my sharp green eyes but looking into his gorgeous ocean blue orbs told me that he was amused, not faking anything at all.

His sister, on the other hand, was totally different. She was hiding her glower but I could tell she wanted to bite my head off.
