"Yes," he said and left. 

I went inside the apartment and found the room. I entered the code and locking the room, I sat down. 

I wonder what that code means? 

Does it even mean anything!? 

Max's POV

 I left the apartment and reached the place where Robert was. 

We have been attacked. 

And this is their base. We can take their boss down; everything will be fine. 

Hailey is in the most secure room right now. But still, things can go wild resulting in danger for her. But that's in the rarest case. 

Robert doesn't trust me at all and won't let me fight for him. But he should know that this is one of the most difficult things and he needs help. 

Our men are on their way. Some have already arrived, but some are coming. Their men have already started fighting, so... It is already kind of dangerous. 

As I reached there and Robert saw me, he yanked towards me. 

"Why are you here?" 

"Please let me help you" 

"I don't want your fucking help just leave!" 

He was way too furious. "Focus on the enemy, please," I said. 

He looked towards the enemy and the firing started already. I was also helping a bit, but it looked like he made sure he manages everything himself. I mean... Every time we used to divide the areas. But this time, he is killing in every area. 

Suddenly I saw someone coming to shoot Robert from behind while he was shooting two men in front of him. 

"Robert!" I said but he didn't listen. 

I ran to push him out of the way but the bullet was about to fire. So, I instead came in between the bullet and him and took the shot. 

I winced in pain as the bullet made its way inside my abdomen. Robert turned around and saw me. I saw his eyes widening in shock. 

He immediately got out of that state and started firing all over. Soon other men joined, and as expected, we took down their all men. 

Robert came down to me. "Hold on, Max. The ambulance is coming" he said. 

I smiled at him. At least I fulfilled my promise. 

Robert's POV 

I was really out of my mind when Max came. I really don't trust him now. 

Anyways, I was still trying my best to make it look that I was enough to fight them, with my men of course, but I really wasn't. 

I heard Max shouting my name, but I thought he was distracting me. Or even if I didn't think that, I didn't have time to even look at him. Many guns were finding the right time to shoot me. 

But then I heard a gunshot right behind me. The shot couldn't be a miss, and the gun sound confirmed that it was not our men. 

So, I turned around and found Max lying and that broke my heart. 

Did he take the gunshot for me? 

I was going berserk. I started firing way too fast and soon my men joined the fight. I was fast in taking down the enemies with the help of everyone. 

After that, I bent down. Max's eyes were open, but he didn't seem to speak anything. 

"Of course! Of course, Robert. Don't joke about such things again" 

I felt really affected by her words. I pulled apart and smiled. But my smile faded as I remembered about Max. 

"Come on, we have to meet Max... He was shot" 

Her eyes widened and she nodded. "Is he gonna be okay?" she asked. 

"Hope so" I replied. 

I don't know how much he is hurt. But I should probably think positive. 

I reached the hospital and saw my men outside. As I reached the door, they left the area. 

I went inside and told the receptionist that I want to meet Max's doctor. 

She took a while before making a call and then telling me to reach floor 5, ward 261. 

I went to lift while Hailey followed me. 

As we went to the floor, we met the nurse. 

"Are you for Mr. Max that got admitted today?" she asked. 

"Yes" 

"umm... I'm gonna call the doc so you could talk" 

"Thanks" 

A doctor came. "Have a seat" he said.
