He ran a couple yards away making the girls run after him. Luke stood too and followed after them jogging along side the girls. I smiled rubbing my belly as I watched them play. My life was so weird but I loved it. I'd gotten a lot bigger in the past weeks. I was obviously showing now and Adain loved it. He seemed so proud to see me pregnant and didn't miss a chance to touch my belly especially in front of others. It was as if he was staking a claim, declaring to the world he was the one who'd fathered my baby.
I should probably feel a certain way about it but he seemed so happy at the sight of my belly and he'd explained that he'd missed seeing me big with the twins and he was so awed by the sight of me that he couldn't believe it. He then told me he was going to keep me pregnant as long he could which I'd promptly laughed at. Because that was so not happening.
I yelped surprised at the sharp tugging on my dress. Adain continued to pull until I stood up but he didn't release my dress.
"Sidney!"
I turned startled to see Stan. I paled my mind spinning as I thought of a way to explain why I had four wolves in my backyard. Two of them freakishly huge.
"Get away from her you freak!"
Then Stan did something even more shocking than his words he pulled a gun from the back of his pants and pointed it at Adain.
Time seemed to freeze.
I'd never seen Stan with a gun before and had no idea why he had one. I realized then he'd called Adain a freak. As if he knew he wasn't just a regular wolf.
My eyes seemed to zero in on the gun and I turned throwing myself onto Adain just as loud bang filled the air. I screamed as agony seared my back. I went limp against Adain as the pain made me dizzy. I could feel Adain shifting under me and in seconds I no longer felt fur but his hot skin. I tried to move but panic choked me as I realized I couldn't feel my legs.
Adain gathered me against his hand hesitantly touching my back.
"Sidney!" Stan yelled.
"Don't you dare come near her!" Adain yelled. "Sidney baby look at me. Your going to be okay I promise."
"Let her go you animal freak this wouldn't have happen if you hadn't twisted her mind!"
I clutched at Adain. "The girls! Protect the girls." I rasped.
I would never imagine Stan hurting the girls but I never thought he would try and shoot someone either.
"Luke got them away their safe." He rasped pressing his hand firmly against my wound. I cried out in pain into his neck.
"I said let her go!" Stan yelled in a shaky tone.
"Are you seriously still pointing that gun at me? You just shot your sister! You shot her!" Adain roared.
"You think I'm a monster a freak? I would never hurt Sidney! Call a damn ambulance before I rip your fucking throat out! I would kill you now if I didn't know she'd hate me for it!"
Stan must have listened to Adain because he focused on me and stared down at me his eyes shinning with fear and fury. "Why did you do that you stupid stupid girl. Your pregnant!"
I hadn't been thinking about my baby. "I couldn't let him hurt you!" I said weakly.
"He couldn't have killed me even if he shot me in the head with that gun. I could strangle you right now if you weren't bleeding all over me." He laughed hollow.
I gave him a weak smile but it slipped. "I can't feel my legs."
"How could you want him! He's a freak!"
"He's the father of my children! I love him he's my family! I don't care that he's a shifter in fact I love that fact about him and the twins! He's not a freak or a monster. You tried to kill him, you tried to kill my soul mate and I can't....get out I want Adain now!" I yelled.
Suddenly a nurse knocked on my door and walked in. "Is everything alright?"
"No I want him out! I want my boyfriend!"
"Sir please leave she needs her rest."
Stan looked like he wanted to argue but he finally turned and left. I turned to the nurse holding a hand protectively over my belly.
"My boyfriend please I need him."
"Only family right now." She smiled sadly. "The doctor will be in to talk to you soon."
"No! I need him now! Please I know he's worried."
"Alright I'll talk to the doctor."
When she left I wiped my face clean of tears and struggled to sit up but winced in pain. Using my legs to scoot me up the bed I froze and stared at them. I could feel them! I could move my legs again!
