"Yeah, but that's different." Naomi let out a quiet sigh. "Besides, I still have to take the equivalency exam, right? Other than preparing for that, what else can I do? Just stay at home?"

Lydia looked at Naomi with an amused expression. She knew the girl sitting in front of her was pouting and trying to persuade her to allow what she wanted.

"Why are you laughing?"

"Who's laughing at you?" Lydia said with a broad smile. "You know, that idea of yours would definitely be rejected outright by Cale."

Naomi immediately clicked her tongue in annoyance. "Of course. I think he enjoys seeing me suffer."

Naturally, Lydia burst out laughing at that remark. "Cale is just worried about you. You know that, don't you?" The woman reached out and brushed a few strands of hair away from Naomi's cheek.

"Yeah, I know, but he's too worried."

Lydia didn't argue because, on that point, Naomi was right. She looked at Naomi thoughtfully. "I'll try talking to him about it later."

Naomi immediately turned toward her. "Really?"

"I'm not promising anything." Lydia shrugged casually. "But I'll try. There is one thing you need to know, though. You still have to take the equivalency exam to get into a university. I don't mind where you go to college. As long as you like it and enjoy your time there, I'll be happy."

"Of course!" Naomi's expression brightened several levels. "I'll study hard. But I also want something to do besides studying. Please tell Mr. Cale. Okay? Please."

And that change made Lydia smile in amusement.

Their conversation continued, drifting through many topics. Most of them revolved around the universities that had been recommended during their trip back from Sun City. Occasionally, Naomi asked about certain majors, while Lydia explained as much as she could while continuing her work.
