Daniel didn't truly know how he was still able to move. Blood streamed from his temple, soaking the collar of his shirt. His left shoulder was nearly numb after being struck repeatedly with an iron bar. Even breathing had become a struggle, each expansion of his lungs feeling unbearably heavy.

Several passersby tried to call for help, but it all seemed futile. They also appeared at a loss, unsure of how to help someone in a situation like this.

"Sir." Daniel's voice was barely audible, even to himself. He forced himself to stand despite the violent trembling in both knees. His blood-covered hand fumbled inside the pocket of his torn suit jacket, retrieving the phone whose screen had been cracked by the impact.

The screen failed to unlock several times because the fingerprint sensor could not recognize his blood-soaked fingers. "Damn it," Daniel muttered under his breath as he hurriedly wiped his hand on his suit before finally managing to unlock the screen.

For some reason, a sudden sense of foreboding made Cale's heart beat a little faster. "Excuse me," he said quietly as he answered the call.

Before Cale could say a word, Daniel's hoarse, broken voice came through first, as though every word was being forced out through unbearable pain. "...Sir... Mrs...."

The moment he heard that, Cale shot to his feet, causing the entire room to fall silent.

"Daniel," Cale called sharply. "Tell me clearly. What happened?"

But there was no immediate answer, only the sound of ragged, labored breathing. "...Mrs. Lydia... Miss Naomi... taken..."
