Behind him, four other dirt bikes followed at a safe distance. They deliberately kept their spacing so that the flying dust and mud wouldn't obstruct their view.

“Fork in the trail, fifty meters ahead,” Paula's voice came through again. “Take the right path.”

Brandon leaned the bike into the turn without slowing down. The rear tire skidded slightly before gripping the damp ground again. The path to the right was far narrower than the previous one. Wild branches covered part of the trail, forcing him to duck several times to keep his helmet from striking the tree trunks.

“Still no visual on the target,” Paula reported a few moments later. “I'm only following the vehicle tracks captured by the drone.”

Brandon remained silent. As far as he was concerned, as long as the tracks were still there, Falcon hadn't truly disappeared.

For the next several minutes, they continued cutting through the forest. The sunlight could barely penetrate the dense pine canopy. The air beneath the trees felt colder and damper, while the sound of the motorcycles echoed between the towering trunks that stood like natural walls.

Suddenly, Paula's voice changed. “Brandon.”

He immediately noticed the change in her tone. “What is it?”

“Damn!” The rapid sound of typing was followed by a quiet exhale. “I've lost visual.”

Brandon eased off the throttle slightly. “Why?”

“The tree canopy is too dense. The drone can't see the trail anymore.”

Brandon glanced up briefly. The thick foliage completely concealed the sky. From below, it was almost impossible to tell that a drone was flying dozens of meters above them.

“I've lowered its altitude, but it still can't get through.”

Several seconds passed in silence.

Then Paula spoke again, this time more quietly. “I've lost the trail.”
