“If you keep going that way,” Paula's voice came through again, “you're going to lose time. That route loops too far around.”

Brandon glanced briefly at the digital map on his wrist. What Paula said was true. The main trail curved in a long arc around a hill. But his gaze stopped instead on the steep slope to the right.

The distance was much shorter, and the incline was nearly impossible for an ordinary vehicle to climb. He slowed the bike for a few seconds, then turned the handlebars toward the slope.

“Sir!” one of the Obsidian Circle members immediately shouted. “It's too steep!”

Brandon didn't answer. Instead, the engine roared even louder. Within seconds, the dirt bike left the main trail and charged up the rocky slope at an angle that sent the rear tire continuously spraying dirt and gravel.

The bike slid sideways several times. Its suspension jolted violently as it struck large rocks hidden beneath the wild grass.

Watching from above, Paula held her breath. “Brandon, the incline is almost forty degrees!”

“I know.” The reply was brief. Yet he twisted the throttle even harder. Just a few meters before reaching the top, the rear tire lost traction. The bike lurched violently and nearly tipped over.

But Brandon immediately leaned his body, shifting his weight to the left while working the clutch with precise control. The tire gripped the ground again, then shot over the crest of the slope.

Paula fell silent for several seconds. Only after she saw Brandon's GPS marker rejoin the main trail did she let out a long breath. “You really cut through it.”

Brandon didn't answer. His eyes were now fixed on the fresh tire tracks that had reappeared ahead of him. This time... the distance between them and Falcon had closed far more quickly than anyone had expected.

“I thought you were just a businessman who spent most of his time in an office,” Paula said with a restrained laugh. “I never expected you to be so skilled at maneuvers like that.”

Brandon grinned. “That was nothing compared to my father's training.” Then he resumed the pursuit after saying, “Guide me, Ms. Paula.”
