One of the team members slowed his bike. “Sir...”
Brandon stared at the bridge for several seconds. Forcing the motorcycles across would be far too risky.
He immediately killed the engine. “We'll continue on foot.”
Without wasting any time, he got off, removed his helmet, then pushed his bike behind the bushes so it wouldn't be visible from the trail ahead. The other Obsidian Circle members immediately followed suit.
They crossed the bridge one by one. Each step made the old wooden planks creak softly, as though they could snap at any moment. As soon as they reached the other side, Brandon immediately broke into a run again.
Beyond the last line of trees, the sound of passing vehicles became clear.
The highway.
They were very close now. Before Brandon could pick up his pace, the communication device in his ear crackled again.
“Brandon.” This time, it was Chris's voice. “We got an answer.”
Brandon kept accelerating. “Tell me.”
Chris seemed to take a breath. “Falcon is heading for the airport. He's planning to leave the country and fly to...”
“Berlin,” Brandon cut in. “I already suspected as much.” Unconsciously, his hand clenched into a fist. “Hurry and catch up with me. I'll reach the small airport in this city in less than ten minutes.”
“Don't let Falcon get away, Brandon. I'm counting on you.”
The connection ended.
Brandon quickened his pace again. The trees ahead began to thin out, replaced by low shrubs that allowed the sunlight to filter through more freely. A few meters later, the forest came to an end. Beyond the last row of trees, a stretch of asphalt extended into the distance, while the chain-link fence surrounding the airport stood not far ahead.
The sound of an aircraft engine echoed from afar. Brandon looked up briefly. A small propeller plane had just taken off, gradually disappearing behind the clouds.
His body tensed. For a few seconds, he truly thought it was already too late. But reason quickly took over again. An airport this small couldn't possibly have direct flights to Berlin. Even if Falcon was on that plane, he would have to transfer through a larger airport.
