Slipping off my shorts I exchanged them with skinny jeans and put on a maroon tank top with a blue jean jacket and a grey scarf. Looking in the mirror I figured this was good enough since my blonde hair was already brushed and wavy. Grabbing my keys and the charger I exited my room and went downstairs peaking my head into the living room where my brother was already playing grand theft auto on his Xbox.

"Would you mind if I headed out for a little bit? I'll be back soon and I'll take you out for ice cream after." I knew it didn't really have to bribe him but I felt bad since I was supposed to just hang out with him.

"Yea, go ahead. I'll see you later," he responded and I nodded heading over and slipping on my grey ankle boots. "Bye Mom, I'm heading out for a bit," I yelled, before stepping out into the cold winter weather. I should've known it would be in the low thirties before I left, I thought frowning slightly. Quickly rushing to my car I started it and gave it a moment to warm up with the heat blasting. Taking my phone out of my pocket I checked to see the same unknown number from earlier texted me. Looking at the address I put it into my GPS and groaned when it said it was 60 minute drive. Where did this guy live? Narnia?

When I turned on the radio nothing interesting was playing like usual making me take out my fall out boy Cd. My fingers tapped to the beat of the old song "Tnks fr th Mmrs," Looking in the mirror, I backed out of my driveway and headed the way the stupid GPS directed me.

An hour later I arrived at a large apartment building I'd never seen before. Did he live on his own? Taking my keys out of the ignition I quickly walked to the glass doors, hating the feeling of the bone chilling wind. Double checking the number, I headed up on the elevator to the tenth floor. When I found the room I was looking for I hesitantly knocked. It took exactly three minutes before he came to the door, of course he ignored me knocking for two of those minutes. I knew the ass took his time on purpose.

The door opened and a smirking Caiden looked at me, he only had a black towel hanging lowly on his hips which he was holding with his free hand.

"Take your damn charger," I muttered irritably, holding my hand out with the charger sitting on my palm.

"Why don't you come in for a minute?" he suggested and I shook my head. Rolling his eyes he continued to push. "You just drove a long way just get a drink or something for a minute while I grab your charger." Grudgingly I dragged my feet into his apartment.

"See that wasn't so hard baby doll," he said shutting the brown door.

"Put some clothes on while you're at it," I muttered, slipping off my boots by the door before heading over and sitting on his black couch not caring if he minded.

"Why? I know you like me like this." He winked and headed down a small set of stairs to what I guess was his room. What apartment building has stairs in the rooms?

The ones that rich people live in.

My eyes scanned the room on their own accord and I noticed how nice his apartment really was. It seemed to be themed black and white which wasn't very surprising. The carpet was white and the table in front of the couch was glass. Who knew this guy could keep something so nice and clean and matching? The kitchen was only a couple of steps from the living room and from what I could see has black marble counters.

My eyes fell on the neatly typed paper on the table in front of me. Glancing back at the stairs he went down I grabbed the paper and seen it was titled humanity. The poem must have been for school since it was next to a textbook and laptop. I let my eyes read over the poem,

Humanity, one word that brings so many thoughts, yet so many emotions. The human race, they get so many chances to fix their errors, their mistakes. But give it a few years their mistakes will be repeated. It won't matter how many times it happens, they never learn. It's like a dog chasing its tail, it never gets it yet it still continues to chase it. They haunt my thoughts and dreams. This is why the human race will be the cause of earth's destruction. Three simple words explain it all, they never learn.

The poem was deep and I was surprised to see that he wrote this. I knew this poem wasn't due till the first day back after break, but for some reason he finished it weeks earlier.

"What are you doing?" I set the paper back on the glass as if it burned me and turned back to him.

"Who are you hanging out with anyway?" I didn't know if I should lie or tell him the truth that it was just my brother.

"That doesn't concern you," I said, huffing.

"So you admit you're just trying to leave. And I thought we were going to try and be friends," he said mimicking a fake hurt expression.

"I guess I could stay for a few more minutes. I have some questions anyways," I say heading over to the high stool next to him in his kitchen.

"Who's that lady always with my father?" Caiden only rolled his eyes as if he expected that question.

"She's my father's wife. In other words my step mother," he said with no emotion in his voice. I could tell he didn't want to go into it anymore and refrain myself from asking anymore questions. Even though the questions were piling up and were like a ticking bomb waiting to go off.

"Do you live here alone?" It was another question that had been bugging me since I got here.

"I'm twenty-two. Do you really expect me to still be living with one of my parents?"
