"What's going on upstairs? It sounds like an earthquake."

As Martha spoke, she set down the dog in her arms and was about to head upstairs.

"Martha, don't go!" Logan quickly stopped her.

Martha looked at him suspiciously. "Why not?"

Logan scratched his head, then came up with an excuse in a flash of inspiration. "Martha, I want a bowl of tomato soup. Can you make me one right now?"

"I thought you don't like that?" Martha wasn't easy to fool. Her mind only seemed to get sharper with age.

He didn't, but Lisa did. And with all that commotion upstairs, she was definitely awake now.

Growing anxious, Logan didn't bother explaining. Instead, he used his long legs to sprint up the stairs, taking three steps at a time. As soon as he entered the room, he locked the door behind him.

"Liz..."

The moment he stepped inside, he saw Lisa standing amidst shattered porcelain pieces, wearing his black shirt. Her long, bare legs contrasted starkly with the broken fragments beneath her feet.

That was the blue-and-white porcelain piece he had just bought at an auction last week. Over 600 thousand dollars—gone.

"Uncle Logan, I'm sorry. I-I accidentally knocked it over, I…" Lisa's voice trembled as she looked at him, eyes filled with panic.

She knew Logan loved collecting these antiques, and they were all worth an astronomical amount.

Money wasn't the issue. If he had placed it in his bedroom, it meant he cherished it deeply. But now, it was completely shattered.

Before she could finish speaking, Logan had already stepped forward, scooping her up from the debris and placing her on the bed.

The first thing he did was check her legs and feet. Fortunately, she wasn't hurt.

He exhaled lightly. "As long as you're not injured, that's all that matters. The vase can be replaced."

Seeing her flustered expression, like a startled kitten, he found it amusing.

Lisa shook her head vigorously. "No! You don't know my mom. If you don't let her in, she won't give up."

Of course, Logan knew that.

He raised an eyebrow. "Then should I open the door and let her in? That way, we won't have to explain anything. Besides, your mom's health has been great lately—no high blood pressure, no heart con—"

Before he could finish saying "condition", Lisa clamped a hand over his mouth. "No way! Not now. I'm not ready."

Watching her panic, Logan chuckled softly. "Then what do you suggest?"

Lisa shoved him aside, dashed into the walk-in closet, and shut herself inside a cabinet.

Before closing the door, she whispered, "Clean my stuff up. If she finds out, I'm never speaking to you again!"
