On the seventh day after my death, my brother was at Emily's wedding. She was wearing a wedding dress, nestled in my ex-boyfriend Matthew’s arms, her eyes red from crying.

"Is Sophia still mad at me? Is that why she didn’t come to my wedding?" she asked through her tears.

Matthew stroked her hair gently, comforting her with a soft voice, "It’s been so long. She was just being petty. You’re not to blame, my sweet Emily."

Meanwhile, my brother angrily called me several times, but no one answered. Furious, he smashed things on the table and cursed me, calling me a heartless traitor.

This family had been falling apart ever since our parents died. Yet, they still insisted that I had to attend Emily’s wedding. They only wanted me there so my misery could make her happiness shine even brighter.

It’s always been this way. Even though I was the real daughter of the Stellar family, and Emily was just the one who was mistakenly brought home, I was always the one left out.

I’ve asked myself countless times—if there was no place for me in this family, why did they take me in at all?

When they brought me back from the orphanage, I was nervous but secretly thrilled. I finally had a mom and dad, and a brother.

For so long, I had dreamed of having parents who loved me, who would hold my hand and walk me to school, who would take me to the amusement park...

But when that day finally came, the reality was nothing like my dream.

That day, my brother Ryan walked down the grand spiral staircase, looking down on me with nothing but disgust and contempt in his eyes.

Dad said, "Sophia, you need to be an understanding child."

They were the ones who had dragged me away from the orphanage, and in one night, they had sent me right back.
