Noelle froze at Cedric's question. She didn't know how to explain to him.

She stayed silent for a while. "I woke up and found myself on an operating table with Carl standing beside me in surgical scrubs. How could I not be scared in that situation?"

Noelle even made a frightened expression. She lowered her gaze. "After all, I don't trust anyone from the Liddells. My mind was hazy, too. I would've been terrified if you hadn't been there."

Even if she thought it was a nightmare, Cedric's presence calmed her.

Cedric observed her. But since her head was lowered, he couldn't see her expression. He patted her shoulder. "It's over now. Your fear won't happen."

He suspected Carl might have threatened her in the past. Why else would she react so strongly?

When Noelle heard his comforting words, she looked up and met his eyes. Her uneasiness immediately vanished.

She smiled. "Of course."

Noelle thought about Carl. "Are the drugs Carl provided that effective?"

Cedric nodded. "Yes. The director confirmed it. I wouldn't have agreed to let him treat you otherwise. The director also examined you and said there'd be no aftereffects."
