Donovan paused and lowered his gaze guiltily. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Carl stepped forward. "Donovan, you keep saying you want to make it up to Noelle. So why are you still scheming against her and trying to ruin her career?"

Donovan stumbled back. "Carl, I just want to bring the Liddell family to a new height. Do you think Noelle will care about us if we don't improve?"

Carl argued, "No, Donovan. You're being selfish. You said you would make things right with her if you ever got a chance. Now that the opportunity is here, why don't you treasure it?"

Donovan was stunned. "What are you talking about?"

Carl looked emotional. "Why won't you take the opportunity seriously when you're finally given a chance to make amends?"

Donovan looked uneasy. "I just feel like she isn't helping the family. I want the family to do better so she won't look down on me for being a useless brother. I never meant to hurt her."

Carl's expression turned grim. "But your actions are hurting her."

Donovan sighed. "Fine, I admit I was wrong. I won't do it again. But if we're this incompetent, she's only going to look down on us even more."

Frank looked at him. "Donovan, why are you so bothered about how you look in front of Noelle? Why are you always trying to one-up her?"

Donovan froze. "I wasn't trying to one-up her. I just want her to look up to me like she used to. I want things to go back to the way they were more than anything."

Carl sneered. "And this is how you plan to do that?"

He turned and walked away. Donovan looked embarrassed and glanced awkwardly at Frank. "Go ahead, laugh at me if you want."

Frank patted his shoulder. "Donovan, we can't go back to the way things were."

Donovan's face fell. "I know. I just wanted to try, but I didn't know how. And I was afraid you'd all laugh at me."

Frank shook his head. "Donovan, this will only make her hate us even more."
