Cedric's low voice sounded beside Noelle. He stood next to her, having maintained a protective stance from the very beginning.

His words hung heavy in the air. At the very least, Noelle noticed that Ruth and Salena's expressions shifted.

Ruth seemed to struggle to keep up her composure. Her smile stiffened. "Ced, what are you saying? It was just a misunderstanding between kids. There's no need to make such a big deal out of it."

She figured that Cedric wouldn't pursue the matter against the Merlocks, given their families' ties.

Salena chimed in, "That's right. After all, Ruth and your mother are good friends. You wouldn't want to embarrass her, right?"

But Cedric remained unmoved. "That's irrelevant."

After he said that, Noelle noticed how the guests' gazes toward Ruth shifted. Some were merely watching the drama unfold, while others seemed to reevaluate their stance.

Ruth realized she was cornered and finally turned to Noelle. "Ms. Liddell, I understand that Samantha is responsible for the incident. I promise to teach her a lesson when we return home. For now, I'd like to apologize on her behalf."

Ruth always looked gentle and delicate. Now, with tears shimmering in her eyes and her voice carrying a pleading undertone, she looked utterly pitiful. That was enough to tug at a person's heartstrings.

But Noelle died because of such manipulative tactics in her past life. And now, she was completely immune to them.

She responded bluntly, "No need for your apology. I'll handle things by the book."

Ruth froze. She hadn't expected Noelle to be so unyielding. So this was what happened when a petty woman got a taste of power. How dare she challenge the Merlocks just because she had Cedric backing her?

"After getting caught, all you have to offer is a half-hearted apology and an excuse for Samantha being just a kid! Do the Merlocks seriously think that's enough?"

Noelle flushed red when she heard Magnus constantly referring to her as his sister-in-law.

Ruth lost her composure. "Mr. Magnus, that's unfair. Samantha isn't even here right now. As her mother, it's my duty to apologize on her behalf. What's wrong with that?"

"She should be right here apologizing! She caused this mess, yet now she's just hiding around? How is that acceptable?" Magnus sneered.

Ruth didn't know how to respond to that. Sensing the tense situation, Salena quickly stepped in. "Mr. Magnus, that's no way to speak to Mrs. Merlock."

"I'm just a kid. That's how I talk. You're all adults. Surely you wouldn't hold it against me, right?" He used their words against them.
